The funeral was held Friday
February 13, 1976 from the
M.L.Watts Funeral Home, Rev
LeDrew officiating. The service
was completed in the Brussel
Cemetery Chapel.,

Mrs, Glenn Heether was
hostess for the February meeting
of the Women's Missionary
Society of ,Knox Presbyterian
Church. Mrs. Gordon Engel
opened the meeting with a
reading. Mrs. Earl Dunn read
from Proverbs and • offered
prayer. "Love" was the theme
throughout the meeting and John
1: 7 - 11 was read by Mrs, Ross
Engel. Hymns sung were "Love
Divine, all loves excelling", "0
Love that will not let me go,' "and
"Come, let us sing of a wonderful
love." Ruth, Chapter 1 was read
in unison. A meditation on
"Love" was given by Mrs.
Dunn.The minutes which were
read by Mrs.. Stuart Stevenson in
the absence of the secretary, Mrs.
Leslie Knight, were adopted . as
read. Twelve members answered
the roll call with a verse
containing the word love.
Seventeen visits and 19 cards
were recorded. A letter from Mrs.
Derek Nind regarding the
executive meeting to be held in
Knox' Presbyterian Church,
Stratford, on March 9 was read.
Cranbrook is responsible for the
devotions. The theme is "The
Power of Prayer".
A letter from the Presbyterial
Treasurer, Mrs. McMaster, was
read also, giving cash needed for
supply and expense funds and the

The school site of Immaculate
Conception School in Stratford
will be extended by the purchase
Monday night of a house and lot
by the Huron-Perth County
Roman Catholic Separate School
Board. The property located at
233 Queen Street, Stratford, cost
the board $20,000.
Salary negotiations with the
teachers for 1976-77 will be
started on Wednesday, February
11. The teachers' present contract
expires in August.
All policies per general
insurance for the board will be
renewed with the Huron-Perth
insurange agents' association
through Leeson-Killer Insurance
Limited, Stratford, for one year to
February 26, 1977. The annual
premium will be $25,01238,
including accident insurance for
the Superintendent of Program.
The Ii mits of legal liability
under the policies non-owned
automobile, owned automobile
and school liability will be
increased from $2 million to $3
million with an increased
premium of $208.15.
The board will continue to have
the financial statement printout
produced by Monteith and
Monteith & Company of Stratford
for the periods January to May,
June to August and each month
thereafter for 1976,
The public speaking semi-finals
sponsored by the Ontario tiaglish
tiFIENDA OARNI8-8,
objective for 1976. The World Day
of Prayer service will be held in
Monerieff United Church on
March 5 and several members
were given parts. A quilting will
be held later. Mrs. Clare Veitch
gave the treasurer's report. Mrs.
Wilfred Strickler mentioned items
of special interest in the Glad
Tidings. The topic "Love's
Dimensions" was given by Mrs.
Stevenson, based on several
verses of Scripture. She also read
the story of St. Valentine.' The
meeting closed with a prayer and
the Mizpah Benediction. Mrs.
Strickler and Mrs. Stevenson
assisted the hostess with lunch.
Mr. Lloyd Sorsdahl, Stratford,
conducted the regular morning
service in Knox Church on
Sunday.
Jack Knight had the misfortune
to have his knee injured by a
cattle beast on Wednesday,
necessitating a cast. ,
Sherri Fraser spent several
days in Listowel Hospital.
A miscellaneous shower for
Miss Anna Lee Stevenson was
held. on Friday evening in the
Community Centre. Mrs. Jack
Knight presided for the program
which consisted of a reading by
Miss Janet Veitch, piano solos by
Patti Wick and Susan Engel,
contests by Mrs. Gordon Engel
and bingo games. Anna Lee, her
mother, Mrs. Stuart Stevenson,
and grandmother, Mrs. Pearl
Catholic Teachers' Association
will get underway on February 25
with Zone 2 held at St. Patrick's
School, Dublin, at 10:30 a.m. and
at St. Joseph's School
Kingsbridge at 7:30 p-. m.
Named to the ad hoc committee
for Focus on Faith was Anthony
Chater, newly hired co-ordinator
for the family life program, board
chairman, Arthur Haid, and
board vice-chairman, Ted
Geoffrey.
To date 25 teachers have taken
the family life course at Kitchener
as a summer course and this year
the board will again pay tuition
fees for eight to 10 teachers
(about $250) to take the course.
Of the 19' schools in the
Huron-Perth system, nine schools
h ave not had a staff member take
the course and these teachers will
be invited to attend. It is hoped to
have a trained teacher in each
school to teach the family life
program.
Trustee F. J. Vere of Stratford
was named to represent the board
on the Stratford Leisure Advisory
Council, The next meeting of the
council is Wednesday, February
18.
Concerned about the loss of
assessment in the two counties
the board administration is to
inve stigate the possibility of
getting information pinpointing'
changes in assessment in Huron
and 'Perth counties.

Obituaries
EDITH MAY THORNTON
Edith May Thornton,
formerly of Kitchener, died
Friday, February 6, 1976 at
Wingham and Ilistrict Hospital,
in her 85th year.
She was born in Down
Ampney, Gloucestershire,
England on May 25, 1891, the
daughter of the late Henry
Richens and Matilda Winfield,
She came to Canada on May 6,
1916 and was predeceased by her
husband, Edmund Nelson
Thornton in 1951. They were
married in Ingersoll on Feb, 27th,
1919.
She was a member of The
Church of St. John the Evangelist
in Kitchener. •
She is.survived by a son Harold
Thornton of Kitchener, three
daughters, Mildred (Mrs.
Lawrence Jacklin) of Brussels
with whom she was residing,
Margaret ( Mrs. Henry Lindner)
and Mrs. Jean Noemer, both of
Kitchener; 17 grandchildren and
18 great grandchildren and a
sister Emily (Mrs. Charles
Oldridge) of Ingersoll. She was
predeceased by three brothers
and one sister.
The funeral and committal
service took place on Monday,
Feb. 9th at 2 p.m. at the Grin hn
Funeral Home in Kitchener with
