Vigil:UMW it, %it Wheat producers Plan, interim payment Grader operators get $5 per hour The Ontario Wheat Producers' Marketing Board plans to make n interirrt payment to producers bout April 1 of 85 cents per ushel. Board chairman Fergus Young, Ennismore, following a meeting of the board February 3rd pointed out that the payment will apply to 1975 crop wheat sold by producers. Mr. Young said producer sales to date exceed 19,6 million bushels which has been purchased by the board and total, board sales to both domestic and export markets to date total A good supply of cattle at Brussels Stockyards Friday raded on a good demand. Choice Steers - 42.00 to 44.00. Good Steers - 40.00 to- 42.00. A steer consigned by Howard Martin of Brussels weighing 1160 bs. sold for 44.00 with his ffering of 18 steers averaging 137 lbs. sellhig for 42.60. A steer consigned by Maple Emblem Farms of Dungannon weighing 1030 lbs. sold for 43.75 with their lot of 13 steers veraging .1103 lbs. selling for 43.55. Choice Heifers - 39.,00 to 41.00 with sales to 42.25. Good Heifers - 37.00 to 39.00. approximately 16 million bushels. This leaves the board with. about 3.5 million bushels of unsold stocks on hand. Producers have received an initial payment of $2.00 per bushel and the interim payment to be made from the pool will add an additional 85 cents per bushel to the price received by producers. Mr. Young said that in addition to the interim payment a final payment will be announced some time later in the crop year. The wheat board has hired a consulting firm to study its A heifer consigned by Graeme Craig of Walton weighing 860 lbs. sold for 42.25. Four heifers consigned by Ken Hurst of Atwood. averaging 987 lbs. sold for 40.50 with his offering of 18 heifers averaging 891 lbs. selling for 39.95. Rintoul of R.R.3, Wingham weighing 900 lbs. sold for 39.75. Fourteen heifers consigned by. Stuart Stevenson of Brussels averaging 852 lbs. sold for 39.75. Ten heifers consigned by Lloyd Pipe of Londesboro averaging 971 lbs. sold for 39.25. Choice Cows - 25.00 to 27.00 with sales to 28.00. Good Cows - 23.00 to 25.00. Bulls traded from 28.00 to 30.00 with sales to 33.00. A Charlois Bull consigned by Paul Murray of R.R.5, Seaforth weighing 2040 lbs. sold for 33.00. There were 823 pigs on offer trading at steady prices. 30 to 40-lb 'pigs traded to a high of 55.25. 40 to 50-1b. traded to a high of 68.10. 50 to 60-1b. traded to a high of 71.00. The top lot of 41 pigs consigned by Harvey Orr of R.R.5, Kincardine, weighing 4.4 lbs. each sold for $1.55 per lb. marketing operations, Board chairman Young, said the study is aimed at improving the board's domestic and export sales arrangement's and freight handling and storage arrangements for the movement of export sales. Mr. Young said following a regular meeting of the marketing board February 3rd that the study has begun and will take about six weeks for a report to be turned over to the board. He said increased volumes of wheat handled by the board, .coupled with tight transportation, handling and storage conditions throughout lake shipping ports and the St. Lawrence Seaway system are placing increased demands on the board's marketing procedures. Mr. Young said emphasis will be placed on export operations where a record ,,olume of sales has been experienced during the current crop year. The board has exported over 10.5 million bushels since July 1, 1975, compared to the previous record of 10.3 million bushels during the complete crop year July 1974 - June 1975. Wages for grader operators, Harry Gillis and Larry Keifer, were set at $5.00 per hour effective January 1 at Grey Township council's meeting February 3. Harold Bolger, attendant at the waste disposal site was given an increase to $3.50 per hour. The motion of January 5 paying, the Reeve and Councillors $10.00 for special meeting was rescinded and it was decided that the Reeve be paid $950.00 and the Deputy Reeve and Councillors paid $850.00 salary for the year. A membership fee of $25. was paid to the Ontario Good Roads. Association and $25. „grant to the Huron Plowman's Association. George Wesenberg was re- appointed dog enumerator for 1976 at the rate of $1,50 per dog. Dogs will be counted by May 1. Robert Bremner was appointed a , member of Mount Pleasant Cemetery Board ,for a three year term. The Road Superintendent was instructed to advertise for tenders for crushing and hauling approxi- mately 26,000 cubic yards, of 5/8" gravel. Tenders to be in by 1 P.M. M onday, March 1. Councillors sent a resolution to the Minister of Health in Toronto. It read': "We, the Council of the Township of Grey in Huron County, oppose the closing of the Goderich Psychiatric Hospital. We feel the ratepayers in our district will feel a great loss if this institution is closed." An application for tile drainage loan in the amount of $10,000. was accepted. A rebate of part of 1975 taxes in the amount of $71.64 was granted to Harold W. Bragg for buildings removed. t The petition of Gerald Ryan and Ken Jackson ,for a drainage works at Walton was accepted and Gamsby and Mannerow Ltd., Guelph, were appointed to make a survey and prepare plan, profile and specifications and report on same.
