Stonehouse (Intended for last week) "Good nutrition begins in the home," was a statement made by Mrs. L. Statia of Wingham at the January meeting of the Belgrave Women's Institute held on Tues. January 20, in the community centre. Mrs. Statia gave a very interesting informative talk on nutrition stressing the wise use of foods containing vitamins, pro- tein and minerals and cautioning against use of "junk foods" or those foods which are not benefic- ial to one's health. A questionn- aire on health and food was answered and a discussion fol- lowed. Mrs. James Hunter; who was convener for the meeting, thank, ed the speaker, 'presented her with a gift and also read an article on "Calorie Counting". Brussels UCW studies Cuba, PM's visit Mrs. Archie Montgomery play- ed two piano solos, Five enthusiastic young people from the Belgrave, area, Janice Coultes, Donelda Lamont, Doreen Taylor, Wayne C000k and Scot Lougheed, all of whom had attended the Toc Alpha confer- ence in "Niagara Falls were present to give their impressions-- of that conference. Their com- ments were very favorably re- ceived and ,the W.I. appreciated the efforts of the young folk who brought the report. Mrs. Stanley Hopper opened the meeting in the usual manner and after words of welcome read a "Recipe for a Happy New Year". The roll call was answered by members giving suggestions for serving unexpected guests. The secretary, Mrs. Ross Higgins, read the minutes, the finanical statement and correspondence. The spring 4H Homemaking Club will be "A Touch,' of Stitchery" and the training school will be held in the Salvation Army Hall, February 17 and 18, 10a.m. to 4p.m. Heart canvass in Feb- ruary with Mrs. William Coultes 'in charge, Huronview birthday party, April 21 at 2p.m., commit- tees to be named latei. Ten dollars was sent to War Memorial Children's -Hospital in answer to an appeal for help. The annual fees are to be sent in before February 1 as well, as twenty-five dollars for the A.C. W.W. Nutrition. Education Fund. The annual congregational meeting of Knox United. Church, 13elgrave, was held on Tuesday evening in the basement of the church, starting with a delicious poi-luck supper at 7p.m. Rev.-JOhn Roberts opened 'the meeting with a hymn, scripture reading and a prayer. Minutes of last year's meeting were read and accepted. The financial statement' was given by Lewis Stonehouse. Church officials elected were, session, Ross Higgins, Lewis Stonehouse and Clarence Yuill, stewards, Gordon Bosman, Glenn Coultes, and George Procter, trustee, Robert Coultes; Christian Education committee, Mrs. Twenty-five dollars, was given to Belgrave School Fair and' Mrs. William Coultes and Mrs. John Kerr are to make up the W,I. classes. The committee .to plan for the Credit Union banquet February 6 George Procter. Other commit- tees were left unchanged, George Michie reported that the church supported one hun- dred and nine subscriptions to the Observer last year for the various homes of the congregation. It was decided 'to hold a Co untry Fayre on June 26. The congregational meeting will be next. year on Sunday, January 23, starting with a meal following the weekly church ser- vice. Appreciation of behalf of the congregation to Rev. John and Mrs. Roberts for their fine leadership during the year was expressed by Clifford Coultes. Mr. Robert closed the meeting with the benediction. is to be Mrs. Ivan Wightman and Mrs. Stanley Black. The February meeting, the 65th anniversary of the founding of the Belgrave Women's Institute, will be held in the W.I. Hall on February 17 at 12:30 noon with a pot luck dinner being served, followed by a program. Lunch was served by Mrs, Glenn Coultes, Mrs. Peter Camp- bell, Mrs, Garner Nicholson and Mrs. Earl Anderson. Personals Mr. and Mrs. James R. Coultes visited on Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Don Rae and Jamie of Guelph. Mr. and Mrs. William Schrei- ber, Kathy and Mark of Milton spent the weekend with her mother Mrs. Earl Anderson.. Mr. and Mrs. James Baker and Mark of London visited on Sunday with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. George Michie. 'Mr. and Mrs. George M. Johnston and Tara of Ilderton spent the weekend with their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Grasby and Mrs. Laura Johnston. This community expresses sympathy to Mr. Edgar Gaunt and his family in the sudden passing of Mrs. Gaunt. Knox elects new church officials On Wednesday the members of the Afternoon Unit met at the home of Miss Lucas with an attendance of twelve. A poem entitled the "Largest Life" was read by Mrs. Miller to open the meeting. Mrs.Thomas was in charge of the Devotions with "Love" as the theme. She read "Winter Roses", a poem written by Patience .Strong. The hymn, "In Christ there is no East or West" was sung and followed by the reading of the Scripture, 2 Corinthians chap. 13. The Meditation "Love - a language everyone understands" was offered by Mrs. Th omas. A short study on Cuba was led by Mrs. Steffler. Conditions in that island since 1953 were reviewed. The change from poverty and starvation has been gradual under Castro's rule. He established a Marxist form of government, in 1959 and an improvement in social conditions has taken place. Communist law is revered although people are allowed freedom of worship as long as it is not made public. Discussion took place concerning the visit of Prime Minister Trudeau and his wife to Cuba. The Day of Prayer will be held March .5. Mrs.. Th omas is convener of the program. Following the closing prayer refreshments were served.
