County engineeT says
Road budget snowed under.
Two weeks of heavy snowfalls
re going, to increase costs in
Huron County's road budget so
iuch that road construction and
ther projects may be'cut in 1976.
hat's what county engineer Jim
ritnell told county ,council on
riday.
Mr. Britnell said overtime in
e past two weeks — in addition
the regular hours —' has been
93 hours compared with 120 kir'
c same period . in 1975.
Rented snow removal
achincry, which last winter was
used an average 80 or 90 hours a
week, will be Used as much as 300
hours a week, he said.
McKillop Township Deptuy
Reeve Ralph McNichol said the
road, committee "is going to have
to cut its budget in, a lot of
places- because of the snow.
'His comments came as county
council approved a'1975 spending ,
summary which showed - the
department's total expenditures
-at $2.4
Deputy. Reeve McNichol said
time spent clearing snow is also
keeping the department's 50
workers from attending to other
chores.
One such job, he said, is the
erection of lower speed limit signs
on county roads to conform to a
provincially - ordered drop from
60 'to 50 miles an hour.,
While the province expects the
signs to be replaced in early
February, Continued heavy
snowfalls may mean Huron signs
"may not be up until June"; he
said.

There has not been so much
turmoil and bad feelings stirred
up in this village fora good many
years as is now prevalent over the
question of the sewage system we
are to have. It is not that people
do not recognize the pollution of
the Maitland River or the need for
some kind of sewage disposal
systent' But the cost of the one
proposed and the fact that the
council has decided to go ahead
with it without giving the rate-
payers a dhatite to vote on the
matter has upset people.
-Many feel that thisdenied 'the
democratic right of the land
owners. There are some who are
even requesting theresignation
of the council over the matter. It
is unfortunate that so much
bitterness has been generated but
it is the democratic right of all to
express their opinion on such,
things. ' •
