POKER RALLY WINNERS After hard ,
snowmobiling through Grey Township in Sunday's
cold weather, trophies were presented to the winners
of the Brussels Optimists snowmobile poker rally.

poker rally
On Sunday the Optimist Club of
Brussels held a successful
Snowmobile Poker Rally with 156
entries participating in a 20 mile
run. The course started at
Brussels Stockyards and went
into Grey ownship:
Co-Chairman Don Bray and
Gord Finch said thanks to all 'the
Optimists, contestants and all the ,
people who helped to make this
event a successful. Also they
thanked the two Grey Twp. area
farmers on whose land the course
was run.
The eight winners receiving
trophies and cash prizes were:
Pat Willett, Trophy and casti
purse; John Whyte, trophy and
cash purse; Gail Glanville,
trophy and cash prize; R. C.
Henderson, cash purse; Roy
Alcock, Cash purse; Neil
McDonald, cash purse; Robert

Weather vs hockey keeps teams home
Wednesday evening found all
local hockey curtailed because of
the weather. Thursday night
improved with two teams getting
out of town. The Atoms travelled
to Drayton whom they defeated
9-1. Scor ers were Murray Pipe 2,.

Brian Wheeler 1, Richard Have-
man 1, Doug Shaw 1, Dean
Rutledge 1. Assists went to Peter
Bennett, Robbie Cardiff, Darrin

The Peewee s were in Milver-
ton also on Thursday. They

What in most cases were
substantially increased gifts to
the Canadian Bible Society from
area municipalities were—a-major
factor in making possible "the
largest income ever" President of
the Canadian Bible Society,
Western Ontario District, Dr.
Mark K. Inman of London added.
"This is surprising in the face of
the mail strike throughout
November."
Announcing the end of year
income to the Society, it- was
noted that $168.792 was received
in donations during 1975
compared to $154,292 in the
previous year.
Area contributions included
(with 1974 in brackets) the
managed to locise the lead but
held on to a 4-4 tie. Scoring for
Brussels was Steve Knight 2, Ken
Cousins 1, Biran Tenpas 1..
Assists went to Kevin Deitner,,
Todd Wheeler, Stewart Cardiff,
Brian Tenpas, Ken Cousins.
The Bantams were in Monkton
on Friday night where they picked
up a .4-1 win. Scorers were Brian
Scott 'and Bill Smith 2 goals each.

Tim Prior, Bill Smith. The Novice
team travelled to Milverton on
Friday where they were defeated
4-1. Rick Knight scored the only

At home in the local -arena on
Friday night the Atoms were
hosts to Milverton. After a good
game of hockey the score ended
in a 1-1 tie. Brussels only goal
was scored by Doug Shaw with
assists coming from Brian Whee-
ler and Danny Achilles.
The Midget team didn't fair as
well when they hosted a team
from Drayton and were defeated
rather badly 16-3.
Saturday found the Peewee
team 'travelling all the way to
Wingham and Mrs.
Montgomery, Wroxeter.

Tiverton for an afternoon game
where after holding a 3-1 lead
ended in a 3-3 tie with. Tiverton
scoring two quick goals in the last
two minutes. Brussels goals were
scored by Kevin Deitner, Ken
Cousins and Brian Tenpas. Assist
went to Steve Knight and Ken
Cousins.
On Saturday night the Novice
team were hosts to .Harriston.
They seemed to thaw out after
Friday night and defeated Harris=
ton 10-1. Brussels scorers were
Kevin McArter 3, Gary Godkin 2,
The Brussels Stockyards' Curl-
ing Bonspiel was held on Monday
January 26, at the Brussels Arena
with 16 teams, competing.
A delicious roast beef dinner
was served at noon by the Ladies'
Curling Club.

skipped by Doug Rathwell, with
Lyle Pettapiece as vice, Jim
Patterson second, and Scott
McLean as lead. Their score was
3 wins plus 19.
The first prize team in .the 9
o'clock draw was that of Ernie
Gary Pipe, Tommie Ward, David
Wheeler, Dean Wheeler, Kevin
Johnston 1 each. Assists went to
Wayne Wheeler Tim Fritz, Rick
Knight, Tommie Ward, Kevin
Johnston and Kevin McArter. '
At press time coaches are busy
trying to re-schedule cancelled
hockey games for Wednesday and
Friday evening.

team skipped by Bob Alexander
with Stew Steiss, Bill Quipp and
Barry Engel. Third prize wetn to
Jack Bowman's team and the
Consolation prize to Earl Fitch's
team.
The second prize team in the 11
o'clock draw was Glen Coultes'
team, third prize team was Orval
Bauer and the Consolation prize
went to Gerald Smith and his
