Marlin Good Fun In Snow Today some of the students in the rooms 17,18 and 19 area have turned into-artists and engineers, in, the snow, that is. Yes, the moles have 'dug deep, high and wide tunnels, forts, and castles.in the extremely deep snow outside the staff room window. They have even been preparing themselves against enemy attack by using snow blocks and building forts. They might not be contractors but they sure did a good job. Gary Grainger Upcoming Sports Games " At Howick Central # School teachers and students play together vigorously. It has been rumoured that the 'Students' Basic Skills. In the Basic Skills, Volleyball Team will .defeat the On Jan. 8, 19760,, the Howick Central girls' Volleyball TEams went to Grey Central. They left 'our school. at 3:20' pan. ready to meet their 'opponents. The first game they played, Howick won 11' to 6, the second, 11 to 5,11 to 9, 3 to 11, 6 to 11, 11 to 5 and 11 to 13,, Altogether, Howick won 4 games, Grey, 3 games. 'Among some of the players of Howick'sfirst Girls. Team were Lynda Riley, Shirley Versteeg, Rhea Behrns, Heather . Brent, Laurel Dane. Among some of the players in the second team were Kim Unrau,. , Carolyn Dinsmore, Gloria and Gail Kreller • and Sharon Brown. Mr. Livermore wars pleased with the quality of all the players. Wanda Bell • Testing On Wednesday, Jan. 7, the students from grades -3 to 8 had the Morrison McCall Spelling- Test. Now on Jan, 12 we are starting the Canadian • Test of there are a series of. tests which take about a .week to.complete. In the Basic "Skill 'tests you use dots for answering; and by the time you are finished you will have gone "dOtty". These tests are to test your knowledge in certain - areas such as English and Math. ,skilS along with study and research. These tests also tell the grade level that you are' working at. • Brock Howes Mr. Stretton to the Rescue It was Mr. Stretton, to the rescue of bus #9 driven by Mrs. Dickert on Thursday, Jan. 8th. When bus 9 pulled "over to the side of the road to let a car pass it soon was "stuck in the gal darn snow". We sat on • the bus for awhile an&Watched the leachers and buses go home. Soon everyone became restjess and started jumping all over the 'bus until it started to slide into the snowbank even more. Then suddenly, our good " Samaritan, Mr. Stretton of Brusiels, drove up , and got stuck in the snow trying to help us._ Kent Strong was sent to his house to call the .wrecker which 'wasn't too long in coming and soon it was . on it's way and we were' on our way home again leaving. Mi. Stretton stuck in the snow bank. Janna Gowdy New Team Electives The Second Term Electives have begun with changes and additional Electives. For in- stance, Mr. ,Doubleday., and Mr., Fisher have changed froth-ganes to models. Mr.,Reid was changed from horses to Outdoor Education. The Book Club and News Elective has been enlarged. The meeting opened with a, prayer:, Mrs. George Fear read scripture on 1 Corinthians... Mrs. Joe Dunbar gaVe the meditation entitled "New Years". Mrs. Athol Bruce led in prayer. Mrs. Garner Nicholson read the poem "Throughout the 'Year. Mrs. Victor Youngblut introduced the topic the coming year on comparing Christian work in Japan and Taiwan. The church is growing more, slowly than the population in both countries. The roll call was a verse for the New Year. Twenty-six sick and shill-in calls were recorded. Minutes of the last meeting were read by Mrs. J.C.McBurney and the treasurer's and year • ending_ reports were given by Mrs. Youngblut. • Mrs. McBurney 'closed the meeting with prayer and lunch was served by the hostess.
