.was a natural choice for a place to
hold an open .house in honor of
the golden wedding anniversary
of Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Bremner
of Ethel. For not only was the
couple custodians of the school
for eight years after they moved
to the village in 1964; but schools
have played a large part in their
active lives,
Andrew Bremner was a public
school trustee at. DUkes school at
the fourth concession' of Grey for
a number of years and was a
trustee on 'the Listowel District
High School Board for 21 years.
Andrew Bremner and Venetta
Hewitt were married on Jan. 5.,
1926. However to coincide with a
weekend, their family moved the
celebration ahead one day to Jan.
4. Despite inclement weather, the
couple were kept busy throughput
the afternoon greeting friends,
neighbors and relatives.
By comparison Mr. and Mrs.
Bremner recalled that their
wedding day was "a mild winter.
day." They were married at the
fourth concession of Grey until
moving to Ethel in 1964, 'They
have a family of two sons, Robert
H. Bremner of Ethel, William H.
Bremner of Oakville; one
daughter, Doris Bremner, at
home; six granddaughters and
two grandsons.
They are members of the Ethel.
United Church. Besides taking an
active part in the li fe of their.
community, M'rs,I3remner enjoy's
working with her flowers and Mr.
premier enjoys helping on the
farm.
To mark their anniversary, the
couple received a telegram from
Gov. (ken. and Mrs. Jules Leger,
a plaque from the Government of
Ontario and letters of congratula-
tions from Permier William iDavis
of Ontario, Ontario Liberal leader
Robert Nixon, MPP Murray
Gaunt and MP Robert McKinley
as well as numerous cards,
" telephone messages and letters
from friends and relatives.

Following the ceremony they
travelled "in a double cutter
owned by the family of the late
Thomas Jackson and pulled by a
fine team of blacks owned by the
bride's parents," to the Listowel
station to catch, a train to travel to
Stratford where they visited
friends.
The couple also recalled that
Donald Hamilton, now of Don
Hamilton 'Real Estate 'Ltd.,
Listowel, was the youngest guest
at their wedding.

Mrs. Irvine Hewitt of Listowel,
sister of the groom, was
bridesmaid at the wedding while
the brother of the bride, the lite

During the week January 5 to
January 11, Wingham O.P.P.
officers c, conducted 25°
investigations.
Three charges were laid under
the Highway Traffic Act. One
charge was laid under the Liquor
Licence Act. Thirty-three
warnings were issued.
During the week, there were
six Motor Vehicle Collisions
which caused an estimated
$1460.00 • in Property Damage.
There were no injuries.
Corporal C.R.(Row) Croskill,
The first executive meeting in
the New Year of Voicc of the
Unborn, Wingham was held on
January 6.
President Adrian Keet reported
that the South Western' Ontario
Pro-life Conference will be held in
Woodstock on January 24. The
accent of this conference is on
youth and the Youth Pro-life
group , of the Wingham, and
Goderich area will be encouraged
to attend.
A fund-raising dance will be
held on Friday, February 27, at
the Armouries in Wingham with
music be the Morand Brothers.
The second annual meeting for
Voice of the Unborn will be held
at St. Paul's Anglican Church on
Wednesday, May 5. It- was
suggested that the speaker be
Mrs. Diane Buchanan, Goderich ;
a volunteer worker with Birth-
right, an organization which gives
free, confidential counselling and
practical aid to any distressed
-pregnant woman, married or
single. It was felt by the executive
that it is important to stress the
alternatives to abortion and that
members of the society should
be \ aware of them. Advance
tickets Will be sold. A nomination
committee was bathed to find
nominees to the Board Of biree-
terS,
The treasurer is now issuing
income tax receipts for all dorm
tionS including Membership don-
ations
The Subject of Birthright ads In
the local, Papers Was brought up
and Will be looked into farther,
New radio ads will be aired on
CKNX radio very soon. Member-
ships in Voice of the Unborn to
date number 160. A report was
made on a visit to R.E. McKinley,'
M.P., during the Christmas vaca-
tion. Adrian Keet and Ben Malda
represented the WinghamPro-life ,
group. They questioned the fed-
eral Justice Department's new
committee .to study the operation
of the abation law.
. Dr. Marion Powell has been
appointed as one of the three
members of the committee. Dr.
Powell is a member of the Doctors
for Repeal of the Abortion Law, a
medical group Lobbying for the
removal of abortion from the
Criminal Code:
Mr. Keet and Mr. Malda asked
Mr. McKinley to ask Justice
minister Ronald Basford to ap-
point a fourth person (pro-life) to
the committee.
. Mr. McKinley said that he
Would like to see threel independ- •
ent members with no convictions
on either side of the abortion
issue sit on the Abortion' Cominit-
tee. The two representatives also
requested that the ConserVative
party whip question the terms Of
reference of the committee.
The committee is asked to
determine whether the views of
doctors and hospital boards are
dictating the refusal to have
abortions 'performed. The OM-
nutted is not asked to determine
,whether the views of doctors and
hospital boards are resulting in
abortion on demand' in sortie
