The McKillop Unit of the
U.C.W. of Duff's United Church,
Walton was held at the home, of
Mrs. S. McCall• Wednesday. Dec.
10 for a dinner meal served by the
losing side of the copper contest.
Mrs. C. Wey gave the Call to
Worship the theme was on Music.
A group of Christmas hymnswas
sung.
Responsive readings 525-528
were read by Mrs. Wey and Mrs.
Hackwell followed by prayer.
Mrs. Hackwell read the Scripture
Luke 2 43-20.
Offering was taken by Mrs.
Hackwell and dedicated by Mrs.

have seen in the past, There are
now more outdOor lighting and
Christmas scenes than in earlier
years but de you remember when
there used to be a huge tree in the
centre of our main street? There
' were even, on occasion, some
people filled with the merry
spirits of Christmas, singing
lustily beneath the tree's gaily
lighted boughs in the late night or
early morning hotirs: Other
sounds emphasized the
Christmas season, filling the air
with delightful musk, the
chiming of the sleigh'• and cutter
bells,w hick alas, is heard no
more. In the weeks just prior to
Christmas the streets and stores
were filled with shoppers hugging
gaily Wrapped packages, shouting
Christmas greeting to one and alt,
enjoying meeting acquaintisses
perhaps' sada* seen during' Oa

Mrs, M. Dennis 'president
presided for the business opening
with a poem "Christmas then
2000 Years. Ago". Minutes of the
last meeting were read by Mrs.
G. McNichol.
Roll Call was taken and ans-
wered by everyone giving a gift to
the Children's Aid Society. Treas.
report was given by:.. Mrs. M.
Hackwell followed by a gift
exchange.
Mrs. D. Dennis gave a very
interesting talk on her recent trip
to Africa.
Mrs. M.' Dennis closed the
meeting with prayer.
Jack Riddell, MPP for Huron-
Middlesex, has been' appointed
agrieultural critic by the`
provincial Liberal party, replacing
Murray Gaunt, MPP for Huron-
Bruce. r
Mr. Gaunt has been appointed
chairman of the Liberal caucus.
As a graduate of Guelph
University in Animal Husbandry
and a Dashwood area farmer, Mr.
Riddell h as had a great deal of
experience in farmers needs and
their problems.
"A main priority with the party
is the preservation of agricultural
land. We can't allow- prime one
and two land to be, used for
industry. Asphalt and corn don't
mix", Mr. Riddell said.
"We are also discusiing a farm
income insurance plan. The
farmer can't afford to take all the
risks. The government is talking
about low food costs and the
farmer just can't be expected to
take.on all the risks involved, they
need to be guaranteed a stablized
price," he said.
Mr. Riddell will be responsible
for legislation in any agricultural
matters and any matters in
agricultural expenditures.
Before being made agricultural
critic; Mr. Riddell was environ-
mental critic for the party for the
past one and one half years.
Mr. Gaunt is -also pleased with
his new appointment. As
chairman of the Liberal caucas,
Mr.Gaunt will be responsible for
•
making sure that the members
know what is. corning up in the
house, He will also act as a liaison
between the caucus and members
of the party.

Housing were . at the Senior
Citizens Apartments here on
Wednesday last to confirm
applications previously accepted
and to accept others.To date only
nine applications have been
confirmed so there are a number
of pleasant, attractive units still
available. Mrs. Jean ' Allen of
Ontario Housing was on hand to
assign; accepted applicants their
apartments with immediate
occupancy.

of these teams deserve a great
. deal of credit .' for the time mat
effort they give these boys, to say
nothing of the travelling they
provide transportation for. Keep
