C AS needs gifts .
Every year at this time The
Childrens' Aid Society makes an
appeal to churches, service clubs
and individuals throughout Huron
for Christmas assistance in the
form of new or good used toys,
gifts, clothing and monetary
donations for families and
children throughout the county.
Although CAS co-ordinates the
campaign, each town has a
co-ordinator of its own. The
co-ordinators spend the week of
December 8 - 12 sorting the
donations into age groups, etc.
The following week, the
mothers come in and make
selections for their children. The
mother receives a cheque to cover
Christmas dinner and money for

The The Sacrament of the Sick was
offered to those who wanted it at
services at St. Ambrose Roman
Catholic Church in Brussels on
Sunday.
The church considers -the
sacrament an expression of God's
concern for the sick and a person
does not have to be in great
danger of death to receive it.
The sacrament is a name for
the Extreme Unction. A church
pamphlet says the name was
changed so that the anointment
wouldn't be associated only with
death and dying.
"Previously we called the
priest only when the sick person
was dying, and thus the
sacrament became a frightening
Cathy Madill, daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. Ray Madill of Blyth was
chosen runner-up at the Ontario
Pork Hostess competition at the
Royal Winter Fair in Toronto.
Cathy, who represented Huron
County after winning the Huron
title in Seaforth this summer, was
one of eight contestants for the
crown. The winner was Marilyn
Dale of Woodstock who was
Cathy's, roommate during the
two-day stay in Toronto. Cathy
was one of two runner-ups chosen
by the judges.
The girls went to Toronto on
Friday where they worked in the
Ontario Pork Producers Associa-
tion booth at the fair, handing out
publicity information. They
attended the horse show on
Friday night and were treated to a
thing for both the sick person and -
his relatives, as ft was seen as the
sign that death was at hand," the
pamphlet published by the
London diocese points out.
The church calls the sacrament -
a sign of strength and healing.
Those who have a serious illness,
the elderly, of those who are,
about to have a serious operation
can receive the sacrament.
Father Nolan of St. Ambrose •
Church said that a RedernptoriSt
priest, Father Sullivan, will be in
the local parish until December 7.
Father Sullivan will have special
services in StAmbrose Church
tonight, ',Thursday and Friday
evenings, when he will give the
sacrament of reconciliation.
luncheon on Saturday where they
were informally interviewed by
the judges. Then each made a
short speech on some aspect of
pork production. Cathy spoke on
how pork has changed in the past
two decades, the exact topic the
winner also chose.
Though she would have liked to
win, Cathy says, she is relieved in
a way that she didn't because of
the heavy demands being made
on the Pork Hostess in her job of
publicizing the use of pork in
Ontario.
She was the youngest
contestant, she says and would
have been afraid how her
schooling at Central Huron
Secondary School might have
suffered with her, extra
responsibilities.
