The scripture from Matt, 5 verses 14 - 19 and Matt. 28 verses 16 - 20 were read by Mrs. Matheson. The meditation "Practical ideas on missions and many mistakes on missions" was given by Mrs. Mair. Prayer by Mrs. Evans. There were 34 visits on sick and shut ins. She told the story of Jacob and Esaw, the twin sons of Isaac and ides, Br wnies el ect of ficers Seventeen members of the local Association of Girl Guides and Brownies met recently, to organize for the coming year. Officers elected were Joyce Triebne , president; Ruth Ward, Vice-president; Adelle Shipman, secretary; Agnes TenPas, ,treasurer; Jane Hall, badge secretary; Nancy Marks and Linda Patterson, lunch committee; and Alice Marks and Donna Long, telephone committee, On November 4th the Guide Company and Brownie Pack met together for enrollment of five flew Brownies and fly UP fourgirls and one walk up. From their birth, they were rivals, Esaw being his father's favourite and Jacob his mother's, By false pretenses, Jacob, „ with the help of his Mother, received both the birth right, (lands, herds, storehouses and treasurers) and also his father's blessing. Later, Jacob was shaken to the soul by the, immensity of his deceit to his father and brother. Isaac soon learned the truth and he and Esaw wept over Jacob. Issac blessed Esaw with a prophecy: The day will come when you will break your brothers yoke from off his neck. From thence, Jacob's life was filled with trouble but finally, after 20 years, Jacob returned home with all his possessiotik. Jacob made peaCe with Esaw whom he had wronged. Jacob had overcome the weakness in his character. Before Jacob died, he called all his sons. He blessed them, warming them of their defects and praising their virtues. Jacobs sons were the twelve tribes of Israel, she said. Mrs. Golley opened the meet- ing with the call to worship. Mrs. Glenn McKercher read scripture from the 49th chapter of Genesis. She then commented On the scripture with the meditation, "A Small Reflection" written by Agnes Pierce. Mrs. Joe Walker First euchre The first euchre of the season was held in the community hall with seven tables in play. Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Sellers and Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Warwick were in charge. Prizes were won by: High Lady, Mrs. George Brewer, Low Lady, offered prayer. Mrs. McKercher read the minutes of the last meeting and roll call was answered by naming a woman of the Bible and telling why she is remembered. Twenty- ene visits to the sick were recorded, Mrs. Gordon Mundell gave the treasurer's report and the offering was received. Offera- tory prayer was given by Mrs. Golley. After the business period, the meeting was closed with a hymn and a closing prayer. Lunch was served by the hostess, assisted by Mrs. McKer- cher and Mrs. Walker. Personals Mr. and Mrs. Donald MacDonald visited on the weekend with Mr. and Mrs. J.J. Elliott. Mr. and. Mrs. William Hall returned to Chatham after spend- ing a few days with Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Hall. A large crowd attended the reception in Bluevale Community Hall for Mr. and Mrs. Larry Elliott. Tiffin's orchestra provid- ed the music. Mrs. Keith Moffatt read an address and Paul Moffatt presented them with a purse of money. Larry and Grace expres- sed thanks to everyone. Lunch was served following the present- ation. Mr. and Mrs. Harold Grant visited Saturday evening with Mr.. and Mrs. J. J. Elliott. Archie Hertel of Kitchener brings prizes Mrs. Wes Paulin. High Man, Lloyd McGee, Low Man, Jerry Frieburger. Lucky Draw, Mrs. Les Greenaway. The next euchre party will be Novembet 20 with Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Taylor and George Hether- ington in charge. visited Saturday evening with Mr. and Mrs. 'Gordon' Hall. Mr, and Mrs. Gordon Hall returned home Thursday after spending a few days with Mr. and Mrs, William Hall and family at Chatham. Mrs. Janet Walker . visited Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Joe Walker and family. Mr. and Mrs. Harris Gold, Mrs. Marjorie Gold and Miss Joanne-Wood of Toronto, Mr. and Mrs. George Paulin of Clifford, and Robert Paulin of Lindsay spent, the weekend with Mr. and. Mrs. Wes. Paulin. Miss Marie Walker spent the weekend with Mr. and Mrs. Larry Elliott at Teeswater. Farewell ek farewell party was held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Dick De Boer for Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Birkey who are leaving the 4th line of Turnberry to make their home in Oregon. A social evening A large crowd attended the 40th wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Wesley Paulin in the community hall here Saturday evenipg. A supper for the family and close relatives was enjoyed, followed by the reception. Brian Elmslie was in charge of the music. was enjoyed. Later Mrs. Alex MacTavish read an address and Mrs. De Boer presented them with an electric lamp and steam iron from neighbours and friends. They both expressed their thanks. Mrs. De Boer, Mrs, MacTavish and Mrs. Wm. De Vos served delicious lunch. Mr. Charles Mathers and Mr. Fraser Haugh are patients in Wingham and London hospitals. Mr. Wayne Baswick was in charge of the service at the Presbyterian church, assisted by Miss Judy Archer, a student at Knox College. Mrs. Janet Walker, Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Henning, Mr. and Mrs. Alex MacTavish, Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Wright, Mr. and Mrs. Jim Wright and Mrs. W. Gannett of Toronto attended the baptismal of Shari Lynne, daugh- ter of Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Wright at the Salvation Army Church. Mr. and Mrs. Paulin have five daughters, Mrs. Bruce (Grace) Foxton, Mrs. Jim (Margaret) Garniss, Doris Hoy, Mrs. Dale (Francis) Brechenridge and Mrs. Ron (Ruthann) Snelling. They have 11 grandchildren.
