they listen closely enough to Mr. -
Robertson when he visits each
grade 4 to 8 classroom in the next
few days to discuss points- about
studying, they will learn a study
method which will be useful to
them. So good luck to exam

Soccer Between Staff and
Students
On 11:55 on- Monday;
November 3rd, the staff team
challenged 10 boys and 10 girls to
a soccer game. The pace was fast
and furious with Steven Espenson
getting the first goal for the
students which was set up "by
David Burns and Kim Sanburn.
About half way through the game
the teachers scored. I did not see .
who scored or set the goal up. The
final score of the game was 1-1.
The next game will be a volleyball
in the near future. We noticed
Mr. Stretton on the teachers'
team limping the next day, We
hope he feels better soon.

Postal Strike
The postal strike that is taking
place in Canada is a problem for
students at Howick Central
School because the books ordered
through the book club, will not
come for a while. There was
approximately $18.00 worth of
books ordered by Gr. 7 and 8
students. They will have to wait
like the rest of Canada and, read
something else in the meantime,

Presentation by Mr. Robertson
Last year when a questionnaire
shpet went home to parents the
main problem mentioned was that
students didn't know how to
study. So, Mr. Robertson is
giving each classroom a
Presentation on "How to Study",
This week, he is 'visiting the
grades 7 and 8 classes. Next week
he will be visiting the rest of the
school.We hope that many
students will profit from these
presentations.
Marlin Good,

attend.

The Afternoon Unit met at the
,home of Mrs. J. Taylor. Nineteen
members and one visitor
andwered the roll call with a
scriptural verse containing the
word "Peace".
Fifty visitations were recorded -
Mrs. Steffler called the meeting
to worship by reading a poem. "I
met God in the morning". Miss
Lucas based her program around
"Remembrance Day Thoughts".
"0 God Our Help in Ages Past"
was sung by the group.
Mrs. Thomas read the scripture
Genesis 41, 46-52. A reading
"Remembrance Day" brought to
mind so many events of war years
which touched our lives very
closely.
Even so , members were
advised to forget memories of
bitterness and revenge. One of
our Lord's greatest teachings was
that we Forgive and Forget.
Prayer was offered. Mrs.
Steffler convened the business on
the agenda.Miss Skelton
reported on the mission project on
the West Coast. Sunday Nov. 16
was set aside as our special
Thankoffering Service.
Mrs. Steffler and Mrs. Hupfer
reported on the zone rally which
was held in Kurtzville.
The Bible study on the Book of
Leviticus was concluded by Mrs.
i f Smith. Study sheets on
"Numbers" were distributed.
We are asked to read "that Book
during the month of November.

Today Marnie ]Davidson, who
works as a nutritionist in Toronto
for the Department of Health was
at our 'school. This is the first year
'they've had- a nutrition week in
Ontario. Miss Davidson was here
to show us what foods are
nutritious. For instance milk and
milk products, peanut butter,
vegetables, meats and bread are
very good foods. She showed us a
film entitled "Snacking, Garbage
in Your Gut". Did you know that
around 51/2 million dollars are
spent on potato chips and
chocolate bars each year in North
America? The correct foods are
important and help us feel better.
What you eat does not necessarily
cause the skin problems
experienced by teenagers. We
want to thank Marnie Davidson
for her very interesting
presentation.

On October 31st, lots of
vampires, bats, witches, clowns,
Martians, • ghosts and other
creatures came from 'the Junior
Wing of Howick Central School to
visit the Senior Wing. They wore
costumes of every material,
colour and size. Some •bf the
teachers even dressed up with
them. They came after the noon
hour, and paraded through all the'
classrooms. To be equally
friendly, some Grade 8 students
decided to return the visit.
Consequently, just before the end
of the day, 6 large bunny rabbits
bunnyhopped their way through
the primary classrooms. No one
seems to know for sure who they
were, but we have our suspicions.

Greaser Day
On October 31st, Howick
Central , School had a Greaser
Day. On this day all Grade 5 to 8
students were expected to dress
like they did in the 50's. The boys
would grease their hair back and
wear straight pants.The girls
would have ponytails and wear
dresses and bobby socks. This
day was sponsored by the
Students' Council which offered a
prize to the classroom with the
highest percentage of students in
attire depicting the 1950's. Mrs.
Hooftman's class won an ice
cream treat because they had
100% of the people taking part.
• Fire Drill
Yesterday, November 3rd, we
had a Fire Drill around 3 o'clock.
Our class was out having
football game when this
happened. The monitors of our
room went running to check the
windows and washrooms. The
'school cleared in a short time.
This is the last one for the term so
if there's another one before next
term then it will be a real one-. It is
very important that students
leave in an orderly fashion or
someone could get hurt. These
drills are all surprises except the
one at the first of the year. Many
students jump when the bell
starts ringing. We are sure if
there was a real fire we would be
ready. z •
