He is married and he •and his wife Verna have three sons. A surpriste family dinner was held, in honor of his accomplish- ment, at his home on Sunday, November 2nd. For use in pies and puddings, wash, peel, core ands slice, To prevent discoloration,' use 1/8 teaspoon powdered or crystalline ascorbic acid, or 500 milligrams in tablet form, for 2 cups prepared fruit. Dissolve ascorbic acid in 2 tablespoons cold water, sprinkle over fruit and mix gently. To 2 cups apples add 2 tablespoons sugar and mix lightly to coat pieces. Pack in freezer containers or bags. If desired, make into applesauce, with or without sugar, pack cold and freeze. Here is a quick trick in preparing your favorite apple pies. Wash, peel and slice enough apples to make one pie. Add the usual amount of sugar and one 'third more thickener. (If you normally use 3 tablespoons flour, then use 4 tablespoons in' this case.) Mix sugar, fruit and flour until the sugar dissolves. Freeze in aluminum pie plates, cover with alumirtum foil and seal. To prepare the pie, do not thaw fruit, place in unbaked pie shell, add spices and dot with butter if desired. Cover with pastry, seal. edges and cut steam vents. Bake as usual. Correspondent Mrs. Mac Engel The seventh meeting of the Cranbrook Baking Buddies was held at the home of the leader Mrs. Jean Witch. The meeting was opened with the 4-H pledge and the members answering the roll call. Further plans were made concerning the achievement day. There was a discussion on Snacks and Small Meals. The demonstra- tion was on Pizza Pops. The meeting closed with the 4-H motto. Church services will continue for the month of Nov. at 9:45 at Knox Presbyterian Church Cranbrook. Sunday School will be held at- 10:45. With. Mother Nature on our side, we should make he most of this glorious fruit and preserve it for later use. It may be canned or frozen. To can apples, prepare a thin syrup using 1 cup sugar to 2 cups water. Wash, peel, core and slice or quarater apples. Drop into a brine bath made by ,dissolving 1 teaspoon salt in 1 quart (5 cups), cold water. Dip only enough fruit at one time to fill two or three " containers and do not leave it more than a few minutes or the apples will taste salty. Drain fruit thoroughly, bring to boil in syrup , and simmer 3 minute. Pack hot, leaving a 1/2-inch headspace. Process 15 minutes in a boiling water bath.
