Miss Hardie, a former F. E.
Madill student , has returned to
our school to teach Grade 9 and 11
Home Economics. After her ele-
mentary and secondary education
in Wingham, Miss Hardie at-
tended the Faculty of Education
at Toronto University.
Miss • Hardie keeps herself
busy canoeing, sailing and oil
painting in her spare time.
She enjoys our school spirit and
thinks that our academic "stan.

The Huron-Perth Volleyball
Tournament was held on
Wednesday, October 22, in St.
Marys. The six teams
participating in the league final
were Listowel, Stratford and
Mitchell who finished 1st, 2nd &
3rd respectively in Perth County.
The other three teams were
Madill, Seaforth and Clinton who
placed 2nd & 3rd respectively
in Huron County.
In the first match Madill came
against Mitchell. During these
games a combination of hard
spiking and good setting brought
Madill both games with scores of
15-6, 17-15.
In the second close match
Madill came up against Clinton,
but with all round good ball
handling it was won 15-9, 15-2.

The third match found us ,
playing the top Perth t earn, 1
Listowel. Perhaps a little
overconfident Listowel was
defeated 15-1 though we lost the
first game 15-8.
In the 4th game we faced
Northwestern to win both games
15-2, 15-11. The highlight of the
game was a thunderous spike •
which sent one of the opposition's
glasses flying and his face turn a
sick-green colour.
Upon facing Seaforth ost
the 1st game 15-13 b t spran
back to capture the 2nd one 15-7
In the final match the first
game was lost 15-13 after a hard
battle. Our best playing , setting
and spiking ever won us the .
championship 15-2, 15-8.

Cross Country
On October 7 the Cross Country
Teams ran in their toughest
competition of the year in
Kitchener.
In the Midget girls race 21
teams with 123 girls were
competing. The Madill girls, lead
by Martha Versteeg, with an 8th
place and Janet Wood with her
9th place finish stood 8th in the 21
teams.
In the Midget boys race there
were 28 teams with 178 runners
competing. Shane Purdon
finished 6th. The team placed
12th.
In the Junior girls division the
girls from Madill finished -6th in a
field of 13 teams. First Madill girl
in was. Judy Adams.
The Madill Junior boys finished
7th in a field of .19 teams. First
Madill finisher was Gord
Kinahan.
Madill's best performance was
turned in by the Senior girls who
placed 2nd in their field. of 10
teams. Marni Walsh was the first
Madill girl to finish. In the overall
results the Madill girls were 2nd.
Junior Football
The junior Mustangs scored a
decisive victory against the
Stratford Central • Marauders,
32.0. Dale Whitfield, who played
a spectacular game started the
scoring from the first kick-off of
the gamdle returned the kick-off
for a 90 ' yd. touchdown.. Jerry
Olechowski completed the two
point conversion. Jerry also
scored a touchdown on a 30 yd.
run around the end.Paul Dickson,
picked up two TD's. This brings
his total to 46 pts. in the last 4
games.
Paul Gowing rounded nff the
scoring with a perfect half back
reverse around the end. Special
mention must go to the strong
defense. They have only given up
two touchdowns in the regular
,season.
Senior Football
Stratford Central rolled to a
21-0 score over the Madill Senior
Mustangs Oc: tober 9. The score
was 2-0 for Stratford at half-time,
but two long passes and some
untimely penalties enabled
Stratford to score three
touchdowns and a single point in
the second half.

The Mustang offense managed
158 yards in total yardage. Dave
Crowe ran the ball 8 times for 18
yards and returned three points
for 28 yards. Quarterback Jim
McGee ran for 25 yards, full back
Roger Kufske hit for 26 yards on 1 attempts, and Don Proctor was
good for 15 yards on 5 carries.
Offensive highlights were Harold
Davidson's 24 yard catch of a
McGee pass, and `Thunderfoot'

The third league tournament
scores for the Wingham team:
Wingham 15, Seaforth, 6,
Wingham 15, Seaforth 4;
Wingham 15, Goderich 7;
Wingham 15, Goderich 7.
The games that Wingham
played were close . There was
good spiking, blocking and
serving. Dwight Adams served 9
points one game.
Basketball
Both teams came from behind to
defeat the Clinton teams, junior
score 26-18 and senior score
25-19. Even when trailing in the
game, their determination saw
them through to victory. This 'now
gives Madill 3 wins and 2 losses
for both teams.
On October 16 the junior girls
played an exciting game against
Mitchell. At half time the score
was 22-21 for Mitchell but
fortunately Madill took the lead
and won a close game 37-36.
Joyce Martin played a strong
defensive as well as offensive
game scoring 18 points.
The Madill Seniors lost in a
close battle against Mitchell on
October 16. The final score was
32-29.
