With only four of the one
hundred and four walkers yet to
turn in their pledges, the total in
the Brussels Lions Olympathon
Walk has passed the $1600 mark.
With expenses for the walk to
total less than one hundred
dollars, it will mean that over
$750 will have been raised for the
Canadian athletes participating in
the 1976 Olympics 'in Montreal.
The same amount will remain in
Brussels to be distributed among
local recreation committees for
the promotion of athletic
activities,
Lion member, Jim
Armstrong, submitted the largest
amount as he collected $157.30
from his 9 sponsor sheets. Roy
Jacobs, Mike Smith, and Tim
Culbert all' earned more than
$40.00 with 31 people turning in

refurbished
Refurbishing a house with the
correct 'period' furniture is - a
difficult chore. It is both time-
consuming and expensive.
The refurbishing at the Historic
Gaol is proceeding very quickly,
however. Four rooms have been
completed and the kitchen of the.
Governor's House is well under
way. One of the upstairs bed-
rooms has received the stripper
and lye treatment to take all 'the
woodwork back to its original
conditon; the furniture is ready to
go in, but a work party to apply
the wall covering has to come
first.
The Board has received furni-
ture from four main sources.
Interested citizens throughout the
County (and at least one Ameri-
can tourist) have donated pieces
which are suitable for the turn-of-
the-century atmosphere being
recreated. Others have made
furniture available on loan.
The first major lender .was
Mary B. Howell, whd helped get
the refurbishing project off the
ground just prior to the 1974
opening of the historic site.
A third source has been the
Provincial Government Mu-
seums' tiranch. That Connection
has not only given leads on hard
to find furnishings, but also
established the necessary ties
with other historic Sites Board,
for example, has provided, on
long-term loan, a massive roll top
desk from the late 1800's for use
in the Governor's office in the
gaol proper. 'I;t was, originally
located in Montgomery's Inn,
Toronto, but was especially
suited for use at the Huron Gaol.
The final source, of course, hag
been to purchase items as
needed. Dorothy Wallace, chair-
Intl of the Refurbishing commit-
tee, follows up all the leads. It not
only takes her to dingy basements
and back sheds, but UISci pUtS her in direct competition with
professional bidders at area auc4
Hon sales.. Her efforts have
crintrleuted in a major WO
.towardS the'sUCceastut refur-
bishing programme.
