11:15 a.m. service at Shakespeare
Presbyterian Church.
Mr. perrie was inducted into
the charge at a special service last
Thursday evening in
Shakespeare where Rev. Dennis
Clarke of Atwood Presbyterian
Church, moderator of the
presbytery of Stratford-Huron,
was in charge. Also taking part
were Rev. Vern Tozer ,of
St. Marys, interim moderator;
Rev. Kenneth lnnes of Brussels
who delilvered the sermon to the
congregation; and Rev.
W.D.Jarvis of Exeter who gave
the charge to the minister and the
congregation.
Mr. perrie received. his
secondary education in Seaforth
at the high school there, and
proceeded to teach public school.
He taught for several years at
Unionville Public School on the
Elma-Mornington township
boundary at USS 9. Mr. Perrie
concluded his teaching career in
Hamilton, then went to Wterloo
Lutheran University and on. to
Knox College at the University of
Toronto where he graduated in
1964.
For four years he worked in the
ministry in the presbytery of
Edmonton in Alberta, and from
there spent the last seven years in
the Beechwciod pastoral charage
near Strathroy.
Mr. and Mrs. Perrie have
moved into the new manse near
the church in Shakespeare. Mrs.
Perrie is originally from the
Princeton area.
Before leaving the Beechwood
area, Mr. and Mrs. Perrie were
honoured by the congregation
there.
One special number enjoyed by
all was a duet beautifully sung by
Mr. and Mrs. Perrie "Unto the
hills around do I lift up". Before
singing this lovely Psalm, Mr.
Perrie said the words would be
sung as the prayer of their hearts
for their people they would soon
be leaving. Bill Lumsden and Ray
'McPhail, of the Sessions of
Beechwood and West Adelaide
spoke on behalf of their church
and each expressed regrets that it
was an evening of 'good-byes'.
They spoke highly of the years
Mr. Perrie devoted himself to his
many pastoral duties which were
always carried out with Christ-
like love and devotion.
Miss Phyllis Hodings read the
following lines which she had
penned for the occasion.
To Rev. and Mrs. Perrie
We are gathered as a group
tonight, as we'v,e been gathered
times before. But tonight we have
a task to do, which. is why I took
the floor. Mr. Perrie we all thank
you, for everything you've done.
For the ways in which you're
special, to each and ' every one.
You've been with our families
ever since you moved back from
out West and preached for call,
and of them all, you were the very
best. So tonight we pay a tribute,
for the part of your career which
you found fit to spend with us for
close to seven years.
Those years that saw' so many
things, there've been ,weddings,
deaths and b irths. You've
shared a family sorrow, but also
in their mirth. There are some
folks here whose children have
'been christened by your hands,
You have officiated others in their
exchange of wedding bands.
You've seen girls become young
ladies and boys grow into men,
Watched youth exchange with
age a bit, time and time again.
You've comforted our elderly, our
y outh you've counselled well,
When sick y ou've been our
visitor, welcomed more than
words can tell. And Mrs. Perrie
you should be thanked and duely
noted, For being for our minister,
a wife strong and devoted. And
Mrs. Perrie though you haven't
been here quite so long, You've
gained and earned respect from
us, respect that's not placed
wrong. And though we're sad to
see you go, God needs you
elsewhere more. And we ask Him
for His blessing, to guide you as
before. We trust that while in
Shakespeare you will feel His
presence near, But in familiar
words--we hope you leave and
know it's good to have been here,
And so until we meet again, we
wish you both the best, ,Take
comfort in the fact that you have
left us richly blessed.
On behalf of the three sister
churches, Hugh Rose of
Beechwood presented Mr. Petrie
with a wallet containing a love gift
and Jack Nethercott of West
Adelaide gave Mrs. perie a lovely
bouquet of red carnations
symbolizing love. Mr. perrie
graciously expressed the thanks
of both himself and Mrs. perrie
for the gifts. He said it was most
fitting that .this lovely evening be
held at Centre Road since it would
be seven years ago on October 16
that his induction service was also
held at Centre Road. It was an
honour to have Mr. Perrie's
parents from Brussels in
attendance at this special
evening.
