This year's Get Acquainted
night had a turnout of about 65
per cent of the childrens' parents.
In many classes both parents
came and chatted with their
child's or childrenS1 teachers. Mr.
Robertson was pleased to see this
happen. The teachers seemed to
express that the evening was
successful,
Mr. Robertson hopes
that evening was a profitable one
for both the teachers and the
parents. I hope that the par ents
trusted their children in the
auditorium. At this time I would
like to thank the helpers who were
chosen to help make the parents
comfortable while waiting to talk
to the teachers.

Students -Council
On Tuesday, Sept. 16 the
members of our 1975 students
council got together and chose
four people to run for president.
These four people are to prepare
speeches and posters. They will
say their speeches at an assembly
and then the rest of the students
will have td vote for their own
choice. "Good Luck" to those
people running for • president:
Gary Douglas
Election in Grade 7 for ,
• Provincial Government
The Grade 7 students
pretended to have a Provincial
Government Election in History
periods. First they learned how
Provincial Government Elections
ar,e conducted and then explored
the responsibilities of provincial
candidates. Six students
pretended to be candidates.
These six wrote and gave
campaign speeches for their
class. Then the class, following all
rules as if it were official, voted
for the one they thought was the
best. We are sure they had fun
playing the part of an Election.

Professional Development Day
Professional Development Day,
Sept. 19 is a holiday for school
children, but the teachers still
have to work. Teachers from the
northern end of the County will
take part in a presentation called
"The Formative Years". This
presentation will be given by five
consultants from the Regional
Office of the Department of
Education in London. In addition
to this the Howick Central Staff
will focus attention on the new art
curriculum for the county. The
Gr. 3, 4, 5, and 6 teachers are
meeting to check each others
Science and Social Studies
Programs to avoid duplication,
They also will be able to give and,
get additional ideas. This day will
be held for all the teachers in.
Huron County, many of whom
will be at Howick Central School.

Milk Program Dropped
In the 1974-75 year Howick
Central School had a milk
program. If_you paid one dollar
you would get five eight ounce
milk cartons. One for each school
day in a week. The reason for
dropping the milk program is
because only 45 people wanted it
this year, Each time 'there was an
increase in price, there was a
decrease in the number of
students purchasing milk.
Inflation strikes again!!
Cancel Early Dismissal
On September 18 (election
day), every one expected to go
home early. That really got the
students' hopes high, but then
the bad news came that no
student would get off early. The
original early dismissal ruling
was recinded. As 8:00 p.m. is the
deadline for voting, the teachers
will have lots of time to go to the
polls after class.
