It's been 23 years since the twins have seen each other and Mrs. Van Veldenhuizen is in Brussels for a three week visit. Although she speaks no English Mrs. Van. Veldenhuizen gets along fine and finds everything here very big. (Photo by Pat Langlois) 1=11.111, ii ran rook WI plans garden tours • PROVINCE OF ONTARIO Royal Commission on Violence iffthe Communications Industry By Order-in-Council 1299/75 of May 7th, 1975 a Royal Commission to study the possible harm to, the public interest of the increasing exploitation of violence in the communications industry was established. The Royal Commission has opened its offices at Room 810, 151 Bloor Street West, Toronto M5S 2V5. Telephone (416) 965-4593. The Royal Commission's Terms of Reference are: 1. To study the effects on society 'of the increasing exhibition of violence in the communications industry; 2. To determine if there is any connection or a cause and effect relationship between this phenomenon and the incidence of Violent crime in society; 3. To hold public hearings to enable groups and Organizations, individual oitiZens and representatives of the industry .to make known their views on the subject; 4. To make appropriate recommendations, if warranted, on any measures that should be taken by the Government of Ontario, by other levels of Government, by the general public and by the industry. the Royal Commission invites interested persons, groups and organizations to send written briefs or letters on these matters. 1. All written submissions should be sent at least three weeks in advance of the public hearing iri your area and in any event no later than May 31, 1976'. 2. Miss Bremner gave very interesting talk on the school child and then handed out some questions to the W.I. members fdr answering. The questions were common problems often experienced with young children and after the members had given their method of handling • the problem Miss Bremner read the method recommended in her text book. Mrs. G. Knight thanked Miss Bremner and presented her with a gift. Miss Bremner read a humorous reading from the newspaper column "Jelly Side Down". To give the meeting a light hearted closing Mrs. Hart and Mrs. Elliott both supplied a "smile". The meeting closed by singing O Canada, followed by lunch which was seryed by the hostess and Mrs. Baker and Mrs. Ducharme. ' Personal Mrs. Wm. McNair and Mrs. Bruce Allen, London, visited on Wednesday With Mr. and Mrs. Earl Dunn. Mr. and Mrs. Clinton Stuart and daughters Arlene and Donna, Lindsay, spent several days with M r.' and Mrs. Douglas Purdy. While on a recent motor trip West Mr. and Mrs. Cliff Bray, Ethel visited with former Cranbrook residents, Mr. and Mrs. Dick Bradshaw and family at Rocky Mountain House, Alberta. Mrs. Bruce Allen and daughterS Linda and Joanne, London were weekend visitors With Mrs. Glenn Huether. All visited Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Huether in Cambridge Galt, and Sandia and Tracy Huether returned With them for a with their grandmother. Each Friday a group. of High School Girls, "The Entertainers" come to the Brussels Nursing Horne and sing and play familiar songs and Hymns. Those taking part are June Williamson, and June Leeming, Walton, Mary Ellen knight and Pat McDonald, and Jeanette Vanderveeni, Brussels. As actoinpnirnent they use piano, guitar, ukelale, and piano aecordiati. They also visit Hospitals and other Nursing Ilontes in the area. Mr and Mrs. Tilt& Redden, Cape Coral, Florida, visited Mrs. Mad Engel on the weekend. The fourth Meeting of the Ciatibtook Garden Gophers Was held On July 11, at 930 A.M. at the honte Of Mrs. Clare Witch. Aeliievertient Day will be held in Gorrie On Wednesday, August 21. Flower arranging, 'scor'eS= for Vegetable - and flOwer gardenS, laical planning acid tossed salads Mrs. Annie Thynne was the honored guest at a gathering of family members and friends held in celebration of her birthday. The Belgrave Men's Choir and their wives honoured Rev. John and Mrs, Roberts at a surprise party on Monday evening at the W.I. Hall. The evening was spent doing contests, games and dancing. Before the smorgasbord lunch was enjoyed, Rev. Roberts was presented with a chair by Jim Mair and Mrs. Robert's was presented with a chandelier by Keith Weber. Both Mr. and Mrs. Roberts expressed their thanks were all discussed by the leaders. Beets, French style peas, beet greens, and a tosses salad were all made and later enjoyed by the members. The meeting closed with the 4-H motto. Mrs. Veitch was hostess for the fifth meeting held on July 17 at 8 p.m. For the roll call each member brought two vegetables from her garden. These were later - checked to see that they were good specimens and prepared correctly for display, giving reasons. A small quiz of .identifying vegetables and The party took place en Sunday afternoon at the home of her granddaughter, Mrs. Marlene Yuill, with twenty-seven guests in attendance to offer their and invited everyone to come and see them in their new home. FAMILY PICNIC A family picnic was held at the home of Mrs. Laura Johnston on Sunday afternoon. Those attending were Mike Reyansoff and daughters Gail and Heidi of St. Catharines, Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Yuill and Cameron of Brussels, Linda!, Paul and Kevin Warwick of Blyth, Mr. and Mrs. Fred. Armstrong, Lorie and Donna Lynn of Auburn, Mrs'. Helen McBurney of Wingham. flowers was held. The meeting was closed with the 4-H motto "Learn to do by doing". congratulations and good wishes. Mrs. Thynne was the recipient of many beautiful gifts, cards and flowers. A delicious lunch was served complete, with birthday cake. Among the guests present were the month old twins of Heath and Diane Thynne, great grandchildren of the guest of honor. Stephensons surprised Doc and Nora Stephenson were pleasantly surprised at their home on Sunday, July 20th, when members of the Shaw, Stephenson, and PearSon families gathered to celebrate their forthcoming 25th wedding anniversary. Bill Stephenson (best man 25 years ago) gave an interesting address and , the couple were ,presented with a barbecue and lawn furniture. Congratulations came from Ten nessee from one brother wh could not attend. Everyone present enjoyed a delicious cold plate supper. Guests were present from Walton, Stratford, Elmira and Brussels.
