On May 28 our Grade 8 class of
the Brussels Public School set out
for our two day camp out at Camp
Menesetung , two, and a half
miles north of Goderich. When
we arrived there we had a tour of
the camp headed by Murray
Raymond. After our tour we had
to organize our cabins. Finishing
that task, we ate our lunch and
had free time 'till one o'clock
when we began our classes.
Classes consisted of: geometry,
swimming, sand candles, stream
study, rock study and tree
identification. We finished
classes at 5:00 o'clock and went
swimming until 5:30. For supper
we had a roast beef supper with
peas, carrots, poatoes and pies.
From 8:00 to 8:30 we went
swimming and then went doWn to
the beach for a campfire and star
study. Our class was divided into
groups, which presented skits
and roasted marshmallows,
Returning from the beach we had
a snack consisting of brownies
and hot chocolate. Lights were to
be out at 11:00.
2nd. day.,
At 7:00 A.M. most of us went
for a polar dip in the pool except
for the sleepy heads. Exercises
and flag raising were held before
breakfast which was in the mess
hall. Clean up of the cabins
followed breakfast, Nature Craft
s, swimming, nature hike, soil
study, paper making and
orienteering were held from 9:00
to 12:00 and 1:30 to 130, At 12:00
1V6 had a cookout. Since all the
food had to be used up we ate and
drank as much as possible. We
had a free period until 1:30, •Often
After
the classes were over we packed
tip and left for home. On, the way home our bus broke down just
-outside of Brussels,
You are welcomed to come and
see our Bulletin Board displaying
our activities at camp.
We wciind like to thank John
Wayne McDonald for giving Its a
ride into Brussels in his pick=up` truck. And a very special thatik§ tot the mothers who supplied the
extra food, which saved us a lot of
money and time.
