Minor
hockey
players
honored
A large gathering of hockey
players and their parents
attended the annual Awards
Night in the Legion Hall on Friday
night. Guest speakers for the
evening were John Th ompson of
Waterloo and Doug Bisson of
Guelph and Listowel.
John Thompson of the
University of Waterloo played his
minor hockey in Mildmay and
Junior Hockey in 'Walkerton. He
is now head of Huronia Hockey
and the Harriston Hockey camp.
He was able to enjoy the 1972
Team Canada trip to Russia and
spoke of the trip and experience
they had encountered while on
that tour, some of which were
quite entertaining.
Doug Bisson, born and raised
in Listowel, played Junior B
hockey in Stratford and this past
season played Junior "A"
hockey for the Guelph Biltmores
who won their league title. They
went on to win the Eastern
Canada Championship and then
went out' west to Edmonton to
play Spruce Grove who eventually
defeated them in six games.
He related his experiences in
Junior hockey. Both speakers
were well received .
They assisted the minor hockey
in handing out the Most Valuable
Player and Most Improved Player
Awards for the past season. The
following is a list of those awards.
Novice - M.V.P. Robbie
Cardiff; M.I.P. Tim Fritz.
Atom "B" M.V.P. - Kevin
Bishop; M.I.P. - Rodney Becker.
PeeWee "A" -, M.V.P. - Les
Williams; M.I,P. - Mike Watson.
PeeWee "B" M.V.P. - Robbie
Stute; M.I.P.-Gerald Martin.
Bantam M.V.P. - Scott Wheeler;
- Bill Smith.
Midgets - M.V.P. - Steve
Pletch; M.I.P. - Kevin Buuck.
The A't'om "A" team was
honoured by their parents for
being W.O.A.k. "D" champions
and each player 'was presented
with a small trophy as a
remembrance of their successful
year of hockey.
The Optiniist Club of Brussels
had also donated to Minor Hockey
one free week of hockey school at
the Harriston Hockey Camp o
to_anyone registered in Brussels
Minor Hockey. The draw was
made at the close of the evening
and the lucky winner was Bill
Smith Jr.
Thanks to all who attended and
