One million Canadian signa-
tures by many times the largest
public protest ever gathered in
Canada, will be the focus of a
nation wide pro-life lobby of
Members of Parliament on
Thursday, May 29th.
Forty people from the federal
riding of Huron will charter a bus
from Goderich and make the
journey to Ottawa to join the
lobby. These representatives
from the Huron riding will meet
with Member of Parliament, R. E.
McKinley. Adrian Keet, Mrs.
Adele Chettleburg, Mrs. Sally
Campeau, Mrs. Hinka Bakelaar,
Mrs. Cory DeBruyn fromthe
Wingham cPro-Life Group will be
among those attending.
The petition was circulated
across Canada over the past year
and names were gathered at
churches, schools, meetings,
fairs, supermarkets, shopping

born the same protection pro-
vided for any other person," has
been described by Douglas Roche
Member of Parliament for
Edmonton-Strathcona, as "so
massive that it cannot be ignored
by the Government."

Mrs. Joe Walker
Mrs. Ross Gray had charge of
the topic, "Rural Routes", when
the Women's Missionary Society
of Knox Church met at the home
of Mrs. Wm. Elston.
Mrs. Gray was assisted by
several members who took part in
reading pamphlets on the
different countries, telling of the
growth of Christianity in each.
She also read 'an interesting letter
she had read from Mary May
Swaratzentruber,, a teacher from
this community who is teaching in
Zaire, Africa.
Mrs. Golley thanked Mrs. Gray
for her interesting topic and letter
and also extended gratitude to
Mrs. Elston for sharing her home.
Mrs. Golley opened the
meeting with a poem,
"Anniversary Prayer". All joined
in singing a hymn with Mrs.
Keith Moffatt presiding at the
piano. Scripture from the sixth
chapter of Hebrews and
comments were given by Mrs.
Elston. Mrs. Moffatt led in
prayer.
The minutes of the April
meeting were read by Mrs.
McKercher and roll, call was
answered by 17 members, giving
comments on books they had
purchased through the Literature
and Library committee of the
W. M. S
Mrs. Gordon Mundell reported
on the Synodical meeting held at
St. Thomas. Mrs. Harry Elliott
reported on the Thankoffering
meeting held t Lucknow; and
Mrs. Wayne Baswick gave a
report on the Maitland
Presbyterial Society meeting held
at Knox hurch, Teeswater. All
reports proved very interesting,
The treasurer's, report was
given by Mrs. Gordon Mundell
who also received the offering,
dedicated by Mrs Golley. Thank
you cards were read by Mrs,
Mann from Mrs. Chapman, Mrs,
Harvey Robertson and Mr s
Baswick.
A hymn was sung and Mrs.
Golley closed the meeting with
prayer. Lunch was served by the
hostess, assisted by Mrs. Golley
and Mrs. Moffatt.
The- Bluevale Women's
Institute will present "May
Flowers", May 29th at 8 P.M, in
the Community Hall. There will
be a sale of "Plants and Aprons",
All ladies are welcome.
The U.C.W. will have a
meeting at the United Church at 2
p.m., May 28 with an exchange of
plants ..Unit 3 will be in charge of
devotions.
Congratulations to Mr. and
Mrs. Larry Elliott, nee Grace
Jeffray, who were married
Saturday in Belmore Presbyterian
Church by Rev. Dennis Freeman
of Gearldton. Quite a number of
relatives and friends attended the
wedding and reception from this
area. The supper and reception
was held in the Belmore
Community Centre. '

Huron District Annual held
Tuesday at Ethel were Mrs. Ken
Simmons, Mrs. Harry Elliott,
Mrs. Carl Johnston, Mrs,
W. J. Peacock, Mrs. Jack
Nicholson, Mrs. Wendell

Armstrong. Mrs. Clarence
Diamond was guest speaker and
showed slides of her trip to
Australia. •
- As guest speaker, Mrs. Betty
McDonald gave an informative
message on "Better Utilization of
Hospital Beds" - a program now
in effect at Wingham and District
Hospital. Brenda Higgins pre.
sided for the business which
included an anniversary dinner
and the Centennial dinner on Islay
28th, both being held in the
church.

Melville Guild hears.
about hospital beds
The May meeting of Melville "Mary - The Mother of Jesus."
Guild followed the theme
"Mother" and opened with
Jessie Little reading a poem
entitled "What is a Mother?"
The scripture Proverbs 31: vs.
10-31 was read in unison,
followed with prayer.
Brian Armstrong, one of the
top twelve selected at the talent
contest held in Wingham,
favoured with piano solos. Isabel
Adams presented the topic -
