Mrs. Jim Armstrong was
hostess for the February meeting
of the Bluevale Women's
Institute on Wednesday aft
afternoon. Mrs. Mendell
Stamper presided and •welcomed
the nineteen members and three
children who were present, The
meeting. epened with the Opening
Ode and Mary Stewart Collect.
A letter from F,W.I.O.
President, Mrs. Maluske of
Chesley, concerning •
International Women's Year and
the increase of fees to $1.50 was
read by the secretary, Mrs. W.
Peacock. Mrs, Jim Armstrong,
Mrs. Murray Jenkins,, Mrs. Ken
Simmons, Mrs. Soren. Anderson
and Miss Emma Johnston were
appointed as a committee to plan
a. project to celebrate
International Women's Year.
Mrs.Harry Elliott assured the
Institute that the Presbyterian
ladies would cater to the annual
meeting. dinner, in April. It was
decided to pay the pooling fee for
our delegate to the Officers'
Conference, April 29, 30 and May
1 at the University of Waterloo.
Thank you notes were read
from Mr. and Mrs. Allan
McKercher, Marie Chapman and
Sparling Johnston. Leaders for
the 4-H. Homemaking Course this
spring are Mrs.Tim Talton, Mrs.
Ken Chambers, Mrs. Robert
Peel, Mrs. W. Stamper, Mary
Edith Garniss and Rosemary
Schmidt.
Due to a shortage .of towels at
the Community Hall, each
member is asked to bring a towel
to the March meeting and it was
decided that members would
bring a gift for the Cancer
Cupboard to the April meeting.
Mrs. Jack Nicholson,
Mrs. Wendell Stamper and Mrs.
Ken Chambers commented on the
Food Handlers Seminar which
they had attended in Wingham.
.Roll Call
The World Affairs Convener,
Mrs. Ken Simmons, presided for
the program. The Roll Call was,
"Are you in favour of the Queen
being head of our country and
why?"
Mrs. J.C.Johnston gave a very
informative talk on the life and
achievements of our Lieutenant
Governor, Mrs. Pauline
McGibbon.
Miss Karen Armstrong
delighted the ladies by dancing
"the Sword Dance and the
Highland Fling. Mrs. Murray
Jenkins won the Valentine cake
made and donated by Mrs. Ken
Chambers.
Lunch was served by the
hostess, assisted by Mrs. Ross
Nicholson, Mrs. J.C.Johnston
and Mrs. Jack Nicholson.
The March meeting will be held
at the home of Mrs.Soren
Anderson on March 12 at 2 p.m.
The roll call is an interesting
article from Home and Country.
EAch member is to bring a bit of
humour to the meeting.
" Unit One Meets
Members of Unit One of, the
U.C.W. met at the home of Mrs.
Carl Johnston on Tuesday aft
ernoon.
Mrs.Chas. Mathers chOse,
"The Miracle of Prayer" as the
topic of her devotions and read
several scripture passages
pertaining to this.
A visitor at the meeting was
Mrs. Mabel Harris and two we e
visitors, Heather McGavin and
Jeff Mathers were present. Mrs.
Carl Johnston read the minutes
and financial statement. .A crib
quilt which had been made was
sold. Plans were made for
catering to a wedding in
August. Cards were sent to Mrs
Gordon Holt and Mrs. Reta
McLennan. Members were
reminded of the World Day of
Prayer to be held in the
Presbyterian Church on March 7
at 3 p.m. UnitOne is responsible-
for the entertainment at the April
meeting in the church. The ladies
spent the afternoon quilting after
which the hostess served lunch.
Personals
The euchre 'party which was
postponed last week due to bad
weather conditions, will be held
February 20 instead in Bluevale
Community Hall.
Mrs. Morris Lobsinger and
Charlene of Kitchener spent last
week with Mr. and Mrs. Jack
Nicholson.
Village U.C.W.
"Discipleship and the Joy of
"Descipleship and the Joy of
Service" was the theme of the
meeting of the village United
Church Women which was held in
the Sunday School room of the
church on Wednesday of last
week.
The worship service was
opened with the singing of the
dedicatory hymn, "Take My
Life" and Unit One presented
Bible readings and meditation on
the theme. '
Mrs. J. Nicholson, the
president, introduced the new
study book for 1975, entitled
"Mission Is- - -". The group then
enjoyed two solos. "Let There Be
Peace on Earth" and "Amazing
Grace" by Mrs. Keith Nicolson of
Unit Four.
The president presented two
films, "Mission Is" and
"Experiment in Outreach" which
showed the diversity of projects'
the church has sponsered or
helped with, where the need is in
our large country.
During the business portion of
the meeting, a decision was made
to hold a garden party on June 4.
Plans were also made for the
purchase of various needs for the
kitchen and Sunday School room.
Delegates were chosen to
attend the annual U.C. W.
meeting at Listowel- on Feb. 26
and hopes were expressed for a
good attendance from Bluevale.
At the close of the muting a
sale of homemade baking was
held, following which lunch was
served by Unit Three.

Mr. and Mrs. J.J.Elliott were
entertained Saturday evening at
the home of Mr. and Mrs. Fred
Ohm in Wingham to celebrate
Mrs. Elliott's birthday. Five
tables of progressive euchre was
played with Mrs. Elliott winning
high prize. Those attending were
Mr. and Mrs. Albert Porter, Mr.
and Mrs. Glenn _Porter, Lucknow,
Mr. and Mrs. Alex Verbeek,
Kincardine, Mr. and Mrs. Jack
King, Michael and Kathleen, Mr.
and Mrs. Harold King, Mr. and
Mrs. Allan Harrison, patti King
and Donald MacDonald,
Lucknow, Mr. and Mrs. Bradley
King and Mark of. Clinton and

after spending a month as a

Hospital.
Mr. and. Mrs. George Thornton
spent the weekend at the home of
Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Weiler and
family of Phelpston.
Mrs. George Bone is a patient
in Wingham and District Hospi-
tal.
Misses Catharine Cardiff and
Carol Wheeler have advanced in
the Senior Silver Dance set in
figure skating by successfully
passing "The Killian" dance,
their first in this series. Test day
was held in Goderich, February 7.
