AM Brussels, were winners of the
9:00 o'clock Draw at the 1st
Annual North Huron District
Masonic • Curling Bonspiel
sponsored by the Wingham
Masonic Lodge #286 AF & AM
held at the Wingham Curling
Club on Saturday, January 18th.
Sixteen rinks representing
Masonic Lodges throughout the
District competed for the Lpe's
Restaurant Trophy which was
presented by the donor to Bro.

Draw winning rink from Wroxeter
Lodge #162 AF & AM.
Team members of the winning
Brussels rink were Rt. Wor. Bro.
Win. Turnbull - lead; Bro. Max
Watts •• second; Bro. Murray

McDonald - skip.
They each received individual
trophies, curling brooms and
curling mugs for their efforts.
The Thompson and Stephenson
Trophy was won by a Listowel
Rink Monday. January 13th at the
annual Ladies' Bonspiel in
Brussels. •
The first draw at 9 a.m. was
won by Listowel and also trophy
winner skipped by Lillian Spence,
Glenna Moore Vice, Mary Pilky,
2nd. Aneela Fleming, lead. They
had 451/2 points. 2nd. in same
draw was .Jean McDonald and
rink from Teeswater. 3rd.Anna
Goodall and rink from Wingham;
4th Colleen Douglas and rink
from At'wood.
The 2nd draw at 11:30 a.m. was
won by another Listowel Rink
with Joanne Dahl skipping,
Marlene Prudden. Vice, Joan
Hemsworth, 2nd, Joan
Rutherford, Lead. 2nd in same
draw was Grace Reid from
Palmerston; 3rd was Jackie
'McPhail , Harriston, 4th, was
Alice Pfeuffer, Atwood.
Tickets were sold 'on lucky
draws. A basket of groceries was
won by Aileen Mutter and a rose
each was won by Jean McDonald,
Marion Harvey, Angela Fleming,
Wilma Rathwell.
Misses Catharine Cardiff, Joan
Heuther, Carol Wheeler and
Michelle McCutcheon
participated in the Great Lakes
Winter Skating Festival held at
the Gardens in London on
Saturday and Sunday.
Michelle and Joan skated in the
ladies Juvenile Division and Carol
and Catharine in the Ladies
Pre-Novice.
All four girls skated well but
CArol and Michelle brought home
the honours.
Carol won third in her flight of
11 for her free skate and came• in
first in figures in her flight of 5 to
rate her a gold medal.
Michelle was third in her flight
of 13 for free skate and came
second in her flight of 5 in figures
to win the silver medal.

The Atom "A" team played
three games to bring home the
championship trophy at the
Seaforth Optimist Winter
Carnival. Their 9 A.M. game
found them playing Clinton whom
they defeated 7 - 0. At 3:15 P.M.
after the first round of
eliminations, their opposition
next was Blyth and handed them
7 - 0 defeat also. The last game •at
8:15 p.m. was played against
Listowel. The final score was 2.- 1
in favor of Brussels. Those boys
participating were Kevin
Kellington, Neil Mitchell, Terry
McCutcheon, Kevin Wheeler,
Peter Bennett, Stewart Cardiff,
Danny Achilles, Kevin Deitner,
Todd Wheeler, STeve Knight,
Brad Wright, Brian Wheeler,
Greg Humphries, Doug McArter,
Murray Pipe, Robbie Cardiff.
In other hockey activities the
same team hosted Milverton one
week ago and handed them their
second defeat of the season by as
4 - 2 score. Scoring for Brussels
was Todd Wheeler 2, Doug
McArter 1, Brad Wright 1.

On the Friday night they
travelled to Mildmay and picked
up a 5-0 win. Brussels scorers
were Kevin Deitner 3, Danny
Achilles 1, Todd Wheeler 1.
Assists went to Kevin Deitner and
Todd Wheeler.
Last Wednesday Ripley visited
Brussels and were defeated by
the home team by a close 5-4
score. Scoring for Brussels were
Kevin Deitner 2, Todd Wheeler 2,
Murray Pipe 1. Assists went to
Peter Bennett, Brad Wright,
Kevin Deitner, Stewart Cardiff,
Brad Wright.
The Novice team played three
games in the last two weeks. They
travelled to Goderich where they
were defeated 4-1. Brussels' only
goal was scored by Robbie Cardiff
assisted by Kevin McArter.
Goderich returned to Brussels on
the Saturday evening and were
leading 4-0 until the third period
when Brussels rallied and
defeated them 5-4. Goal scorers
were Robbie Cardiff 3, Doug.
Shaw 2. Assists went to Kevin
McArter 3, Dean Rutledge 2.
They travelled to Zurich on
Friday night where they defeated
Grand Bend 8 - 0. Scorers were
Robbie Cardiff 4, Doug. Shaw 1,
Darrin Watts 1, Paul Machan 1,
Rich Knight 1. Assists went to
Darryl Hastings, Kevin Johnston,
Gary Pipe, Dean Rutledge, Darrin
Watts.
In BA ntam activity, last
Wednesday saw them hosting
Ripley and were defeated 16-1.
Scott Wheeler scored the only
Brussels goal. They travelled to
Blyth last Monday evening where
they were defeated 15-2. The only
goals were scored by David
Watts. Assists went to Alan
Bragg and Scott Wheeler.
Blyth returned to Brussels on
Wednesday evening to defeat the
home team 12-7. Scoring for
Brussels was Scott Wheeler 2,
Tim Prior 2, Brad Knight 3.
Assists went to Murray
Ducharme, Alan Bragg, Doug
Cousins, Brian Scott, Brian
Deitner, Robby Demaray, Darwin
McCutcheon.
0 The Pee Wees played
Milverton three times in the last
week and a half. One week ago
Friday they hosted them and were
defeated 2-0. On a very stormy
Thursday night they travelled to
M ilverton to defeat them 6 - 1.
Goal scorers were Brian Ten Pas
2, Ken Cousins 1, Ken Higgins 1,
David Engel 1', Steven Huether 1.
Assists went of Brian Tempas,
Ken Cousins and Terry
McCutcheon. Milverton returned
to Brussels the next night to be
defeated again 6-2.
The Midget team had two home
games. They hosted Ripley one
week ago Friday and defeated
them 5 - 2. Goal scorers were
Jerry Olechowski 2, Steve Pletch
2, Bob Bridge 1, Assists went to
Danny White, Paul Gowing,
DAve Watts, Kevin Buuck.
Last Friday night the local team
was able to handle the high flying
Milverton squad their second
defeat of the season. In a very
exciting game the final score read
Brussels 5, Milverton 4.
