Hill pointed out that the ;uarantee cane from Energy linister Donald S. MacDonald cithin two days of postponement 1f the hearings before the National Energy Board. "Since the NEB has not been lisbanded, 'we can only assume ..'Abinet supports its existence end is prepared to consider its lccisions, Hill points out. If this is the case, MacDonald !as abandoned the principle of 'abinet solidarity and on his own , telling Ontario farmers in •Ifect, to "drop dead," Hill says. MacDonald's actions say he ares nothing for farmers views n the pipeline route; he is not trepared to listen to the National :,riergy Board, or wait for its iecisions before announcing his wn. "If Cabinet supports the !,nergy Board and believes in its unctions, then the Prime 4inister has no alternative, he lust 'remove MacDonald from ffice," Hill says. If the Prime Minister approves is Energy Minister's igh-handed pronouncements, len he must disband the lational Energy Board, Hill ontinues. Reviewing the background, Hill ,aid, OFA at the outset expressed 0 the Prime Minister and the • .iiergy Minister farm opposition o the Sarnia-Montreal pipeline. )FA proposed, instead, a route cross Northern Ontario which would not destroy prime agricultural land. MacDonald. assured OFA that the proper place to make an intervention against the proposed line was before the National Energy Board. "We were advised hearings would be convened to hear both pros and cons from which Energy Board would make a decision and forward recommendations to the Energy Minister," Hill says. "We were told the CAbinet would 'lien announce its decision. "At the great, cost in people's ine and energy as well as in 'armors dollars, we played the . ,ame according to the rules set ,at by the Energy Minister," Hill .tates.•. In the recent Gazette that was passed out at Howick Central, it stated that Wednesday night of every week would be set aside just for the convenience of parents who wish to and like to read. The school library will open at 7:30 and remain open till 9:30 p.m. starting in January• for any parents who wish to borrow books or read. The principal of Howick Central hopes, to see many parents participate on Wednesday nights, and he sincerely hopes it will be worthwhile. Ann Gibson The hearings were again postponed while IPL questioned its ability to finance escalated cost; asked government assurance of support and finally questioned availability of sufficient western oil to make pipeline pay. The hearings were to be reconvened at the request of IPL. To OFA's knowledge, hearings have not been reconvened and OFA has received no notice that They will be. Also, OFA has received no copy of any NEB decision, so assumes one has not been made. • BROWNIES On December 16th the 1st Brownie Pack of Brussels exchanged gifts at their Christmas Party.
