Stonehouse Friends and neighbours gathered at the Institute Hall January 11 to shower Beverley is Burchill with many useful gifts. Beverley was seated in a lively decorated chair flanked by Ila and Brenda Burchill and Marie Els- ! ton. Ruth Gordon gave two,readings "What's a Man"- and "A Wife". Everyone joined in a contest :J. conducted by Verna Currie after 1 which Evelyn Galbraith read the Address. Beverly thanked everyone for 1. the many gifts. Mary Coultes played the piano : while everyone sang "For She's a 1. Jolly Good Fellow". Lunch was served by Verna Currie, Evelyn Galbraith, Bar- bara Taylor and Ruth Gordon. U.C.W. The regular meeting of. the 4 Evening Unit of the U.C.W. was held January 7th at the home of Mrs. Cliff Logan with fourteen present. Mrs. Jack Higgins was in charge of the worship service. t Meditation "Time to Spend" was .1 given by Mrs. Jack Higgins. A hymn "Standing at the Portal" was sung and the scripture lesson was read by Mrs. Robert Taylor. Mrs. Higgins read the poem "God in Each Season". The hymn "How Firma. Foundation" was sung followed with a reading by Mrs. Jack Higgins. The singing of hymn' "He r1 Leadeth Me" and closing prayer - 1 brought the 'worship service: to a close. The collection was received and prayer was given by Mrs. Murray Lougheed. Minutes were read and adopted. The business was conducted by leader Mrs: Murray Lougheed. Mrs. Leslie Knight opened the meeting with it reading "A Thought for the New Year". Others taking part were Mrs. Earl Dunn, Mrs. John Schnoek and Mrs: J,ack Knight. - The Hymn, "Standing at the portal was sung" followed by prayer. Psalm 8 .was read in unison and a meditation given by Mrs. Leslie Knight. All repeated the Lord's Prayer. It was decided to have a pot luck dinner preceding the annual congregational meeting. There was a discussion• on the work of Salaries for township officials were set at the Morris Township inaugural meeting last Monday. They are: Clerk - Helen Martin $3,500; Treasurer, George Michie $1200.; Poundkeepers: Carl Johnston, Clarence Goll, Ross Turvey, Harvey Edgar, John Bowman, Wayne Hopper, Clarence .Yuill, Mervin Pipe, George Michie, Sam Fear, Robt. Bird, Wm. Craig, Geo. Blake, Rae Huether. Live STock Valuers: Glen Casemore and Ken Taylor at $5.00 for 1st hour and $3.00 for extra hours plus 15 cents per mile. Stevenson and Councillor Sam Pletch were recommended for appointment to East Wawanosh Recreation, Parks and Community Centre Baord. Reeve Wm. Elston and Councillor Thos. Miller were- appointed to Blyth District Fire Area Board for Morris. • Deputy Reeve Jas. ,Mair and Councillor Pletch will represent president of the Ladies Aid, Mrs.Veitch conducted the last part of the meeting. Minutes and treasurer's report were read. The roll call "A New Year's -Verse" was answered by ten members. A New Year's message entitled "A New Year, A New Day, A New Challenge" was given by Mrs. Leslie Knight. .Closing Hymn was "0 Master, let me Walk with ._Thee", and all joined in the . ..Mizpah Benediction. Mrs. Gordon Engel and Mrs. Mac Engel assisted the hostess with refreshments. Mrs. Bruce Allan, London, spent a few days with Mrs. Glenn Huether recently. Mrs. Elmer MacKay and Mrs. Wm. McNair, Loridon visited their niece Mrs. Earl Dunn one afternoon last week. Morris on Wingham and District Fire Area Board. Melvin Craig was appointed to Wingham and District Hospital Board. Walter Shortreed was appointed to Seaforth Community Hospital Board. Thorne Riddell & Co., London were appointed auditors for 1975. By-law. No. 2, 1975 was passed authorizing the Treasurer,. and Reeve to borrow on the credit of the municipality up to $135,000 from the Canadian Imperial Baril ofCommerce, Wingham. The treasurer was autherizedlo pay road employees monthly. The next meeting will be held February 3, at 1 p.m. Road accounts of $12,907.86 and General Accounts of 7,400.79 for a total of $20,308.65 were passed for payment. Morris sets 1975 salaries
