Mrs. Allan McCall
The Christmas meeting of
Walton U.C.W. was held in the
church basement on Wednesday
evening when 37 members set
down to a smorgasborg meal at
seven o'clock.
Following this a devotional
period was held with Mrs. A.
McCall . reading a poem,
"Christmas is Carols, "Silent
Night", While Shepherds
Watched Their Flocks" and "0
Conte All ye Faithful" were sung
accompanied by Mrs. W.C. Hack-
well at the piano. Mrs. Waiter'
Bewley read scripture from Isiah
and the "Christmas Story"
followed by a poem, "A Child is
Born". Mrs. A. McCall gave a
Christmas Prayer. Hymns "Joy
to the World" and "Good Chris-
tian Men Rejoice" was .sung.
Mrs. A. McCall read a poem,
"Comedy of Cards". Mrs.
Bewley ,announced that the
general meeting of the U.C.W:
would be held on Friday. January
3 at 2 p.m.
Mrs. Harold Bolger, contest
leader of the losing side who
prepared the evening thanked
everyone for their help and Mrs.
Mae Sholdice replied with their
thanks on behalf of the winning
side. It was agreed the copper
contest leaders for next year
would be Carol Collins and Olga
Contests followed convened by
Mrs. H. Traviss, Mrs. Ron
Bennett, Mrs. S. Humphries,
Mrs. G. Watson and Mrs. A.
carle. Santa arrived and distri-
buted gifts and boxes were
sent to shut-ins for Christmas:
17th and Boundary Unit Meet
Mrs. Jan Van Vliet Sr. was
hostess for the unit meeting at
her home on Thursday afternoon,
December 5th.
Mrs. Harvey Craig opened the
meeting with a poem, "Christmas
Wish" then read scripture from
Good News to Modern Men.
Prayer was given by Mrs. Helen
Williamson. followed by a poem
"Christmas Melady" and a
reading "Yuletide Christmas
Spread Around the Globe".
Several of the most familiar
Christmas Carols were sting.
Mrs. Helen Williamson closed the
devotional period with prayer.
Mrs. Martin &an conducted
the business. The minutes were
approved as read by Mrs. Harold
McCallum, Ten members
answered the roil call. The
Ott was received and dedi-
cated. The financial reports Were
given by ivies. C. Ritchie and Mrs.

Recent investigations carried
out by the OPP of Wingham
detachment include:
Six investigations with six
persons charged under the Liquor
Control Act.
Six charges laid with ten
warnings issued under the High-
way Traffic Act.
Twenty-four investigations
with six charges laid under the
Criminal Code.
On Tuesday, December 10,
Dennis L. Shoemaker of RR 5,
Mildmay and Thelma M. Man-
ning of Blyth were involved in a
collision on Highway 4. south of
the Blyth C,P.R. crossing. No
one was injured and damages to
the vehicles were estimated at
$320.00.
Calvin R. James of RR 5,
Brussels and David A. Dunbar of
RR 1, Belgrave were involved in a
Collision on Highway 4 south Of
the Maitland River Bridge,
Morris Township. No one was
injured, arid damages were
estimated at $760,00,
Glen A. Porter of RR 5,
Lticknow and Charles H. Shob-
hrock of RR 3, Walton were
involved in a collision in Blyth.
There were no injuries, arid
damages were estimated at
$1,350,00.
DECEMBER 18, 1974
were dedicated by Brian
McGavin. A Christmas poem was
read by Jeanne McGavin.
A Christmas film "The Littlest
Candle that Melted" was shown
and the - pre-school class enter-
tained with a chorus of music:
The Tyro class gave a skit
followed by a skit 'from the
explorers, entitled "Christmas in
Other Lands" followed by singing
a "Song of Joy".
Everyone went to their classes
where paperS were given 'out,
Teachers' in charge were: Mrs,
Merton Hackwell; Mrs, Mac
Sholdice; Mrs. Ross Bennett and
Mrs. Neil McGaviii.
• Christmas Service •
Christmas tree and pointsettas
was the setting for the 3rd Sunday
in Advent service on Sunday
morning when Rev. D. Docken
.spokeas his sermon, "The kings.
of Christmas". The choir ren-
dered an anthem, "0 Little Town
of Bethlehem". A Christmas EVe
service will be held December
24th at 7:30 p.m.
Charles F. Dwinnell of Hanover
and Johm M. Eadie of RR 1,
Wingham were involved in a
two-car collision on Sideroad
15-16, north of County Road 7,
Turnberry Township. There were
no injuries and damages were
estimated at $300.00
James Malda of RR 2 Wingham
was involved in a single 'car
collision on Highway 4, south of
Huron Road 16. East Wawatiosh
Township when his car skidded to
the west side of the highway and
went thyough a fence owned by
Carl Whitfield.. Mr, Malda was
not injured and damages were
estimated 'at $465.00
On Friday. December 13, Roy
W. Melton of RR2, Wingham
struck a cattle beast owned by
Herman Metcalf. The collision
took place on Concession Road
10-11, east of Highway 4. No one
was injured and damages were
estimated at $350.00.
On Friday, December 13 4 David
B. Vicktneyer of Mitchell was
involved in a single car accident
On Concession 13-14, just west of
sideroad 15-16, Grey Township.
Mr. Eicknieyer was riot injured
and damages were estimated at
$1,000.06
DONALD McLEAN.
Donald McLean, beloved hus-
band of Iona McLean, of Morris.
Township passed away in Clinton
General Hospital on December
11, 1974.
He was in his 47th year. Mr.
McLean was born in. Morris
Township on May 1, 1928 the son
of Mrs. Daisy McLean and the
late Roderick McLean.. He
married Iona Johnston on July 29,
1948 where they farmed in Morris
Township till his death. He was a
member of the Presbyterian
Church.
Surviving besides his wife are 5
sons David of Toronto; Douglas of
Clinton; Kenneth of St. John's
Nfld.; Glenn, Keith and 1
daughter Karen at home;. 6 sisters
(Mary) Mrs. Jack Pennington;
(Fannie) Mrs. George Somers;
Ella( Mrs. Frank Allcock all of
Brussels; (Grace( Mrs. Bob
Thompson, Bluevale; (Ruby)
Mrs. Bill Irwin of Goderich;
(Doris) Mrs. Bill Stuart of Grims-
by and 2 grandchildren. He was
predeceased by his father, a
sister Janet and a brother Art.
The funeral service. took place
from the M. L. Watts Funeral
Home of Brussels with Rev.
Edwin Nelson of Seaforth
officiating. Burial was in
Brussels Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Bill White,
Bert Elliott, Ronald Gordon,
Lloyd Appleby, Alf Nichol, Bud
Khuel. Flowerbearers, Ken Bird,
Murray 'Gordon, Elliott Somers.
JOHN KEITH McCRACKEN
Word has been received from
Edmonton Alberta of the sudden
death of John Keith McCracken,
age 30 years, son of the late Jack
McCracken formerly of Brussels.
He was, killed December 4,
1974 at Slave Lake Alberta after
being exposed to hydrogen sul-
phide gas while cleaning sections
of a pipeline.
He is survived by his wife
Carol, one daughter Cindy and
one son Mark at home; his
mother, Mrs: J.C. Aird, Victoria,
B.C.; his grandfather, Mr. S.
Ankers, Victoria; one sister, Mrs.
Audrey Boje, Winterburn,
Alberta and aunt, Miss Margaret
McCracken, Edmonton, Alberta.
Mrs. Allan McCall, Walton and
Mr. Donald Currie Brampton
were cousins of the deceased.
WILBUR GRAINGER
There passed away in Howick
Township Olga Wilber Grainger
in his 77th year.
Born July 24th 1897, he was the
son of the late Mary and Richard
Grainger. He had been a resident
of Howick Township his entire
life, except for a short time when
he resided in Brussels.
He was predeceased by two
brothers Fleming and Clayton but
is survived by 'one niece Jean,
Mrs. C. L. Workman, Brussels.
The funeral service was con-
ducted by Rev. F. Carson from
the M. L. Watt Funeral Home on
December 4th. Temporary
entombment followed in the
Brussels Cemetery Chapel.
