"We've got to do something soon because that area has tremendous potential for recreation for the public — not just for individuals," he said. Other areas considered important he said, include stream and river sources in McKillop, Elma , Minto, Howick, Morris, Grey and West Wawanosh townships. During the meeting theCome Alive Senior Citizens group t wesented a petition in favour of the reconstruction of the Gorrie Jam and Conservation area as a primary authority project. The dam was washed out during the spring flood in '74 and the day use area was virtually destroyed. Presently the senior citizens feel it'k an eyesore and they're being deprived of a formerly well used recreation area. it was moved that this petition, be discussed at the next meeting of the MVCA. The authority also got its first look at a proposed 1975 budget of about $435.000. In introducing the proposed budget, treasurer Marlene Shiell said it is expected the 1974 budget of $376,600 will be inadequate to cover expenses until the end of the year because of inflatio n. The general levy for Municipalities, she said, will remain the same as 1974 while increases in expenditures are dependent on contributions to the Maitland Valley Conservation Foundation. Major expenditures in the % budget are the estimated $103,700 for administration and the estithated $165,000 for the authority's conservation areas' program. The authority's water management prOgratri will account kir $98,000, she said. DECEMBER 11, 1974 Correspondent.
