UCW names officers at Christmas meet

The United Church Women
met for their Christmas .meeting
in Duff's Church basement on
Wednesday evening with 20
ladies present.
Mrs. J. Burch, in charge of the
McKillop Unit gave the CAII to
Worship and read a poem,
-Christ's Gifts of Christmas"
followed by prayer. Mrs. Martin
Baan was pianist for the singing
of the Christmas Carol, "Silent
Night". Mrs.C. McCutcheon read
a scripture from Isiah, Mrs. M.
Hackwell led in prayer followed
by Mrs. Don Dennis reading a
scripture from the chapter Luke 2.
Mrs. J. Burch read the meditation
on "Am 1 ready for Christmas".
Mrs. L. Walker gave us a very
interesting topic on "The Gift of
Christmas", bringing us back to
the simple Christmas of our
Grandmother's Day, it goes with
giving and endurance as things
weren't so plentiful, but was a
much happier fulfillment.
The offering was received by
Mrs. H. Traviss and dedicated by
Mrs. Burch. "Joy to the World"
was sung. Mrs. Burch thanked
everyone who took part.

Presbyterian S.g.Coneert
The Bluevale Presbyterian
Church Sunday School held their
Christmas Concert , Sunday
afternoon with Mr. Wayne
BasWick as chairman. A large
crowd attended and enjoyed the
recitations, skits, musical
selections and Christrrias songs
and carols. Santa visited at the

Mrs, W, Bewley conducted the
business opening with a
"Christmas Thought". The
minutes were adopted as read by
the recording secretary, Mrs.
Herb Traviss. All were in favour
of the donations recommended by
the executive to the War
Memorial Hospital, London;
Children's Aid, Goderich and the
Milton Society for the blind. It
was decided that it would be a
joint meeting of all units at the
September meeting in 1975. First
meeting of the new Year ,
January 8 will be in charge of 17th
and,Boundary Unit. Mrs, Bewley
mentioned the 50th anniversary
of Church Union in 1975. Special
plans are being made by the
Worship Committee throughout
the year.
Mrs. Reid reported there were
no church calendars available this
year. Mrs. H. Traviss gave the
treasurer's report in the absence
of Mrs. K. McDonald.

nominating committee brought in .

Institute Visits HuronvIew
Walton Women's Inst itute
members took part in the
December birthday party at
Huronview last , Wednesday
afternoon. Mrs. Neil McGavin
was emcee for the program which
included musical numbers by:
Mrs. Bill Humphries at the piano;
Mrs. Harold McCallum, mouth
organ and Mrs.Emerson
Mitchell, violin, reading by Mrs.
Frank Kirkby. The Christmas
story was told in story and song
with Mrs. Harvey Craig the
narrator. Mrs. McGavin led in a
sing-sotig accompanied at the
piano by Mrs. Herb Traviss.
The twenty-eight birthday
celebrants received gifts from the
institute followed by lunch of cup
cakes and tea during the social
period.

The December meeting of the
Bluevale U.C.W. held on Dec.
4th, 'was opened by Mrs. Walter
Willits, who led the devotional
service. She was assisted by Mrs.
Sparling Johnston, who read the
Christmas story from Luke If and
Mrs. Wendell Stamper who gave
a teimely Christmas reading. •
During the study period Mrs.
Willits told of the Mormons, their
history and their religious beliefs.
The stories of Carols from
different countries, were told by
Mrs. Marie Elston, Mrs. Bert
Hastings, ,Mrs. Lloyd Warwick
and Mrs. Robert Wheeler. The,
audience joined in the singing of
each carol after its presentation.
A tribute was paid. to the late
Mrs. J. Wickstead by Mrs. CArl
Carl
Johnston, a beloved member of
the U.C.W. and church. She will
long be remembered for her
willing service in various facets of
church life, her love of children
and her faithful visiting of the
aged and ill.
Mrs. J. Nicholson, the
President, conducted the
business of the meeting. Reports
were read from the treasurer and
leaders of the units, telling of
their activities of catering,
quilting, packing bales, etc.
showing a very successful year.
The roll call was answered by
bringing gifts for the Children's
Aid Society.
Christmas greetings were
received from Lunn Lai Ying the
U.C.W's. sponsored child in
Hong. Kong. An increase in the
donation to the same, was voted,
