The MVCA has encountered
problems in acquiring land for

Readings are being conducted in
the Provincial House concerning
the land speculation taxation.
Long range proposed land
acquisitions were presented by
Ian Deslauriers Resources
manager for MVCA. Most ,of
these proposed areas contain
stream sources, critical during
runoff periods. The ravine section
of the Maitland R. at Goderich
was also mentioned. There is a
need for increased recreation
facilities in the Goderich area.
These areas are slated for
acquisition over an extended
period of time.

properties at high prices for
cottages, he said.
He said the authority must
move to acquire land in the area
before values become too
inflated. Already the authority

With only a few people yet -to
turn in their money, it appears as
if the final total will run up to the
$2060 mark in the first annual
Brussels Minor Hockey Skate-a-
thon. Kenny Cousins earned the
largest individual sum as he
returned $94.00 for his ten hour
skate. In second place was David
Engel with $62.50 and he was
closely followed by Dorothy
Boneschansker who led the girls
with $60.25„ Dorothy was one of
three Boneschansker girls to
skate and the family turned in a
total of $89.75. .This earned them
second place in the family
earnings behind the Cousins,
Kenny, Doug and Gwen who
earned $179.50. •
The success of this year's
skate-a-thou was so gr eat that
it's almost certain to be held
again next year. Organizers hope
to improve on any mistakes made
and would be most appreciative of
any suggestions for
improvement. Complaints. or
of a "demonstration" home on
James Street advising them to
stop pumping water onto the
street within ten days. If pumping
continues the village will correct
the situation and charge the
Wingham Home Building
Company.
Mr. King said water,
apparently from adrain that was
cut off during construction and
never hooked up again, has been
filling the home's cellar and the
company has been pumping the
water out onto the street.
Land separations for Ivan and
Betty Campbell and Reinhardt
and Mabel Bauer were
recommended for approved as.
were building permits for Ross
Brighton and Harry J. Hall.
George Cousins will be hired to
drive the snow plow for $3.50 per
