The Brussels Post, 1974-09-11, Page 11Owing to the Labour Day Holiday, Monday's activities were
cancelled. Two new residents, Mrs. Margaret Erratt and John
Nesbitt, of Blyth were welcomed at the Tuesday Hymn Sing
following the Bible Study led by Mrs. Prouti of Exeter. Mrs,
Myrtle McAsh and Mrs. Nellie Welsh shared the piano
accompaniment for the hymns.
The residents enjoyed an, hour of organ music on Thursday
afternoon played by Ed Stiles, of Goderich, who also
accompanied Mrs. Betty Rogers for several vocal solo
numbers.
The Bradleys, of Clinton, entertained on "Family Night".
This talented family have, won the hearts of the folks at the
Ro me, as well as the surrounding community with their fine
I r ish music. Eugene Bradley accompanies the four girls and
three boys with Mrs. Bradley joining the group for the last
number,

Figure skating
news
Misses Carol Wheeler, Joan
1-luether, Michelle McCutcheon
and Catharine Cardiff have just
recently completed 8 weeks in the
Kitchener Memorial Auditorium.
Carol was most successful of
the four girls in that she passed
her third figure at the end of the
sessions, She competed in Free
Skating in St. Catharines and was
.5th out of 28, Carol now skates in
a pairs set with Blaine Moore of
Wingharn and they won 4th out of
12 in this category at Toronto,
August 16th.
Both Michelle and Carol
entered competition at Toronto
August 17th in Free Skating
solos, with Michelle coming 4th
out of 9 in her flight and Carol 4th
out of 8 in her flight.
For the month of September,
Catharine and Carol will continue
their skating at Fall School at
Albert McCormick arena in
Waterloo.

Harvest. Fifty-two visitations
were listed. Miss Skelton read a
letter from the Leprosy Stamp
Fund. The sale of stamps so far in
1974 amounts to $6,709 with an
objective of $14,000. Members
were asked to save purchase
tapes which have a refund, value.
Mrs. H. Steffler and Mrs. J.
Smith attended the Alma College
School for Leaders in August.
They gave an interesting report of
the time they spent there and
appreciated the instruction they
received as well as the fellowship
with Christians.
The General meeting of the
U.C.W. will be held September
17.
Church on Monday, September 9.
There were 33 calls on sick and
shut-ins. The collection was taken
by Mrs. Speir and dedicated by
Mrs. Martin. The Scripture from
Romans 8, verses 24-39 were read
by Mrs. Evans. The meditation on
courage and faith was given by
Mrs. Steiss. Prayer was by Mrs.
Matheson. The Topic on Rachel
and Leah the mothers of the
twelve -tribes of Israel was given
by Mrs. Speir and "Lead Kindly
Light" was sung.
New pastor

at. Gorrie
William Burdick Parker, a
graduate of Huron College, was
Ordered to the Diaconate in a
Service conducted September 9th
in St. Ann's Church, London, by
the Right Reverend T. David B.
Ragg, Bishop of the Anglican
Diocese of Huron.
Mr. Parker, an American by
birth, holds a Bachelor of Laws
degree from Albany Law School
in New York State. He was
Mayor of the' Village of Richfield
Springs, New York, for Sixteen
years. He came to Canada in
1971, enrolled as a student of
Theology, and graduated with a
Master of Divinity degree last
spring.
Mrs. Parker has been a
Professor of Occupational
Therapy at the University of
Western Ontario for the past
three years. -
Bishop Ragg has appointed the
Reverend William Parker as
Deacon-in-charge of the Parish of
Gorrie and Fordwich. He and his
wife will move to their new parish
immediately.
