(:Staff Photo) TODAY'S CHILD BY HELEN ALLEN HE'S ALWAYS CHEERFUL Ronny is an alert baby of 14 months with a passion for anything that makes a noise. Happy, responsive Ronny is sturdily built with very dark eyes, light brown hair and fair skin. He has eight teeth whose arrival did not bother him at all. Inf act nothing seems to worry Ronny who is normally cheerful and seldom cries. Yet this lovable youngster has a major problem. He was born with spina bifida, an injury at the base of the spine which often results in paralysis of the lower part of the body. He also has hydrocephalus (abnormal build-up of fluid inside the skull) which is being satisfactorily controlled. Ronny has no movement in his legs but his arms and shoulders are strong and muscular. Ronny has been fitted for leg braces but they are not ready yet. When they come, he will also have a walker and will start on physiotherapy with the object of strengthening his legs. No forecast can yet be made as to whether he will walk. As if this were not enough, Ronny has no bladder or bowel control. Schedules can usually be worked out to handle that problem when a child is older. Ronny is an appealing baby with a winning personality. He is ffeetionate With his foster family and accepts StrangerS amiably if they will wait for him to make the first advances. Ronny is considered at least average in ability. He is saying a few foods words .and starting to feed himself. He is eating Mostly table Lovable Ronny needs parents who will give him much love, and excellent physical care. For general adoption ion, Please eontact your local Children's Aid Society, Correspondent Mrs. Lewis Stonehouse The Grandmother's and Consumer Affairs meeting of the W.I. was held on August 26,p, at 8:15 p.m. in the Women's Institute Hall With a splendid attendance. The 1st vice presi- dent, Mrs. William Coultes, presided and opened the meeting with the W.I. Ode, Mary Stewart Collect and 0 Canada. Mrs. Norman Coultes accompanied at the piano. The president welcomed all those present. The secretary, Mrs. Ross Higgins, gave a report of the previous meeting, also the treasurer's report. Correspondence included Thank You cards, also a letter announcing regretfully that the course on needlecraft applied for by our Branch would be unable to have it. The 4-H leaders are Mrs. Clarke Johnston, Mrs. Richard Moore, Mrs. Bert Campbell, and Miss Man Black. The ploughing match will be held November 1st at Mr. Bill Elston'i. The W.I. agreed to cater to a hot turkey banquet of 150 plates for 7 p.m. in the evening of the match. Sixteen pairs of salt and peppers were purchased. Mrs. Dan Hallahan, Mrs. Herson Irwin and Mrs. George Walker were convenors of the following program. Theme "God gives to each of us the ingredients of happiness; it is up to us how we mix them." Special recognition was made to the oldest Grand- mother present and the youngest grandmother present, also reports of the most grandchildren. Mrs. Herson Irwin gave a reading entitled "A Family", giving preludes of some Old time songs all joined in singing "Memories" and "Home Sweet Home." Dianne Scott accompanied herself on her guitar, singing three numbers "Red River Valley") "O Susanna'', and Pastor A.R,Yielding was honoured with a surprise party at Bethel Bible Church. Wednesday evening. It was his fiftieth year in the Ministry. The five churches he served were: Bethel Church - Toronto; Grace Church, Newmarket; Faith Bible Church Stratford and. BEthel Bible Church, Seaforth. Ten ministers and nearly 200 people brought greetings. Rev. J.L.Hockney of Burlington, Sec. Treas. of the Associated Gospel Churches, referred to Mr. Yielding'_ s work The 1974 Huron County Dairy Princess Competition will once again be held at the Zurich Fair on September 23rd, designed to improve communications between the milk producer' and consumer. The Dairy Princess is a goodwill ambassadress who represents the Huron County dairymen of her area at various social and educational functions. Girls who are interested in the competition must be a resident of Canada, single and between the ages of 17 to 26 as of August 1st, 1975. A girl whose father has been involved in the dairy industry during the past five years as a milk producer, or as a producer's employee, is eligible to compete. "She'll be Coming Round the Mountain" well rendered Koll Call - A grandmother's recipe proved very amusing and old time remedies. Collection was received, also Friendship Pennies. Mrs. Hallahan introduced the speaker, Mrs. Ivan Wightman, who spoke on nutrition, giving the daily values of milk which con- tains calcium, iron, vegetables raw or cooked preferably raw where possible, also eggs, meat including fish, breads, cereals and cheese, quoting those low in calories but nutritious in our daily diet and menus. A penny auction followed which proved amusing and profitable. The meeting closed with the Queen and Institute Grace. Lunch was served by Mrs. Jack Taylor and Mrs. Stanley Black. Personals Mr. and Mrs. Carman Farrier, Brian, Coleen and Carol and Miss Winnifred Farrier spent a few days with Mrs. Nelson Higgins. Mr. and Mrs. William Gow attended the 25th wedding anniversary of their daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Jack Ladd of Goderich. Michael Wales of London spent the weekend with his grand- parents, Mr. and Mrs. William Gow. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Gow of Waterloo, Mr. and Mrs. Al Hendri and family of. Bolton were recent visitors with Mr. and Mrs. William Gow: Mr. and Mrs. Harold Procter returned home on Friday night for a 5-day Polar Bear bus tour to MoosOnee, Mrs. John McKee and Mr. and Mrs. Jack McKee of Montreal spent a few days with Mr. and Mrs. Harold Procter and Miss Margaret Curtis. Mrs. John McKee remained for a couple of weeks with her sisters. PEE MUM and said that his thorough knowledge of the Bible made it a joy to sit under his ministery. Rev. Hugh Stewart from Fort Erie, who had been asociated IwithIVIr. Yielding during his long ministry, recalled him when they first met. He was a young ambitious, receptive worker who put his feet on God's Highway' and never looked back, he said. A short program of singing and greetings was presented and the Ladies Fellowship opened and closed the evening with a Smorgasbord style dinner. Contestants will be required to' deliver a short prepared speech on a subject related to the dairy industry. They will also have individual interviews from a panel of judges and participate in the climax of the event - the milking competition. Contestants will be involved in coaching sessions before the competitions so that they can be filled in on all aspects of the competition. Girls participating in the Competition will receive prizes, with the 1974 Huron County Dairy', Princess receiving a luggage set.
