HomeMy WebLinkAboutThe Brussels Post, 1974-07-31, Page 10NEWS OF Huronview Marie Flynn, Lorne Lawson, Norman Spier and Jerry Collins provided the old tyme music for Monday's activities, with Debbie and Earl Flynn entertaining during the intermission. New residents welcomed to the Home included, Mrs. Henderson, Mrs. Datars and Arthur Henry. Volunteers for the afternoon were Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Dale. The Kingsbridge W.I. were hosts for the July Birthday Party on Wednesday afternoon. Thirty-three celebrants received gifts following the program and 150 residents and guests enjoyed a social half hour with lemonade and cookies served by the ladies. Mrs. Clem Steffler was emcee for the program which included a vocal trio by Luille, Donna and Margaret Frayne , solos by Dianne Van Ray. Irish jig by Mary-Jo Steffler and Joanne Crawford, Highland Fling, Lisa Frayne, readings by Father Karl and a sing-a-long by Mrs. Steffler. Tom Herman, who celebrated his ninetieth birthday on Wednesday, thanked the institute on behalf of the residents. Mr. and Mrs, Leonard James visited Sunday evening with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Wilfred Johnston." Mrs. Walter Cook and George Harrington of Blyth visited 'on Sunday with Mrs. George Cook, Mrs. Helen Allan and Mr, Harold Manchester of Toronto visited last Thursday with Mrs. Cora McGill. Mrs. Nelson Dusky of New Hamburg, Mrs. Robert Taylor and family, Misses Trudy Taylor. and Joanne Edgar are holidaying at a cottage at Conestoga. Mr. and Mrs. Ron Nicholson and Sherri of St. Marys visited on Sunday with his parents Mr. and Mrs. Garner Nicholson. Sherri remained for a few days while he parents move to Listowel where Ron will be manager of the Beaver Lumber Company. Dr. and Mrs. Kenneth Moore and family of Waterford spent the weekend with Mr. and Mrs. , Glenn Coultes and family. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Coolies visited on Sunday with Mr, and Mrs. Harmen Mitchell of Rothsay. Miss Doreen Anderson is spending five weeks as a cm sellor at Camp Menesetung near Goderich. Sheila Anderson is spending some holidays in London with Mr and Mrs. Les Shaw and family. Correspondent Mrs. Lewis Stonehouse A sun and sand beach party was held on July 20 for Belgrave 11 4-H. The club left Belgrave at 10:00 a.m. and arriveu at Point Clark cottage just soon enough for a swim before lunch. The lake was icy cold, yet all the 13 members and 2 leaders braved the cold and went for a dip before the barbeque lunch. During the afternoon, the girls took pictures, sunned or swam. At 4 p.m. they took their tanned or burnt selves home. They were very happy for the last chance to get together as a group. The Belgrave II would like to thank their leaders Mrs. James Hunter and Mrs. Bert Campbell for their help during the club and especially for July 20, Wedding Reception • A large crowd attended a reception and dance in the Women's Institute Hall on Friday evening in honor of the newly- weds, Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Cook. Scott's Band supplied the music. After lunch was served, Harvey Black asked Mr. and Mrs. Cook to the platform where he read an address and Tom Black presented them with a gift of money. Both Margaret and Ronald made fitting replies. J.A. Meet The Belgrave Junior Auxiliary met in the . Orange Hall on Saturday morning with Patti Edwards leading in the games. The president Audrey Scott led in the opening exercises. Cathy Shiell took charge of the roll call. Minutes of the last meeting were ready by Sheila Anderson. Patti McDowell and Julie Correspondent Mrs. Allan McCall Miss Amy Love, Toronto; Mrs. Clara Pryce and daughter Mary of Vancouver and Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Churchward, Toronto spent the weekend with Mrs. Walter Broadfooj. Mr. and Mrs. Ian Wilbee and Mr. and Mrs. Ken McDonald are on a holiday to the west coast. Saturday guests at the home of Mrs. Walt er Broadfoot were Mr. and Mrs. Paul Kirby and four Gnay collected the offering and Pati Edwards recited the offertary prayer. The treasurer's report was given by Julie Gnay. Leaders for the next meeting games - Nancy Moore, sing-song; Kelly Lougheed, to help with worship service; Sheila Ander- son, clean up girls, Lisa Thomp- son and Audrey Scott. The sing-song for this meeting was led by Lisa Thompson. Personals Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Mines of Niagara Falls, N.Y. spent a couple of days with Mr. and Mrs. HarryMcGuire. Steven Nixon, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Nixon of R.R. 5, boys of London. On Sunday Mr. and Mrs. Malcolm Dougall and Mr. and Mrs. James Thompson, all of Exeter, called at the Same home. Mr. and Mrs. David Alliston of London were Sunday supper guests with Mrs. Broadfoot and Mr. and Mrs. Albert Cardiff were Sunday evening guests at the same home. Weekend guests with Mrs. Fred Dunk were: Mr. and Mrs. Philip Dunk and son David of Toronto and Mr. and Mrs. David Brussels, returned home on Wednesday, July 24 from Stan- stead College, Quebec, where he attended the Howie Meeker Hoc- key School, After leaving the college, Steven accompanied Robert Stover of Blenheim on a tour through the United States before returning home. Mr. and Mrs. Lorne Jamieson and Doug Hanna visited recently with Mr. and Mrs. Randy White. Bruce Hanna has returned home from an enjoyable trip to Virginia. Recent visitors at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Lorne Jamieson were Mrs. Ella Vogan of Cres- cent, B.C.; and Mrs. Robert Stone of Atwood. Dunk, Darlene and David of Corunna. Mr. and Mrs. Dave Watson have returned from a 2-week tour of the Eastern Provinces. Mr. and Mrs. Joseph ' Ryan have returned home after a month's vacation with their fami- lies in the west and Vancouver. Donalda Lamont and Doreen Taylor accompanied Mr. and Mrs. Art Hagerman of Beeton who left for a motor trip to Prince Edward Island on Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Procter attended their daughter Mar- jory's graduation from Westervelt, School, London at Seven Dwarf's Inn on Friday. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Procter, Maxine and Marjory, Mr. and Mrs. Larry Mayberry and family, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Procter and Karen, spent Sunday afternoon at Springbank Park, London. Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Cook and Mrs. Telford Cook visited on Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Harold Slessor of Glammis. Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Hill, Jeffrey and Richard of Tavistock spent last Sunday with Mr. and 'Mrs. Robert Procter and attended the Yuill reunion at the home of Mr. and Mrs. William Peacock of Bluevale. Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Marshall of London visited on the weekend with her father, Mr. Stanley Cook, who is a patient in Wingham and District Hospital.
