Fifteen days later, Jim was out
of the hospital. His brother had to
stay in for 52 days, and both
return to St. Michael's regularly
for check-ups and further tests.
The operation was a painful one
for Jim. One rib was removed to
got, at the right kidney and he said
the week after the actual
operation was the roughest.
Jim, who works on construction
in Stratford and owns a 200 acre
farm, expected to be back
working three months after the
operation.
.For Gerald, it will be about a
year before he gets back to
normal. Since the Operation, he
has been back in the hospital a
couple, of times but nothing
serious has come up.
"I have no complaints;" he
said.
Jim has no complaints either.
"I'm just glad io.see my brother
healthy again."

kidney to
Jim Sloan, R.R.5, Seaforth f had
a difficult decision to make
several months ago. His brother
Gerald, of Grafton, Ontario, was
forced to use a dialysis machine
when both his kidneys failed to
function. He needed a new
kidney.
Jim, 32, was approached by his
brother's doctor in Toronto, to see
if he would be willing to donate
one of his kidneys to help his
brother return to a normal life.
"I did sonic thinking before I
said yes," he admitted. "You
dont just up and do that sort of
thing."
"The doctor told me one out of
every 400 persons live on one
kidney," he added
Gerald • had been on the
dialysis machine for at least eight
months. In mid-January,
interviews and tests began.
The Sloan brothers were
fortunate as the necessary
requirements were easily met.
Gerald is only two years older
than his brother and blood and
tissue types matched well enough
to proceed with the' transplant.
On April 1, Jim entered St.
Michael's Hospital in Toronto.
The following day, he became the

Boundary and 17th Unit. Meet
Mrs, Helen Williamson was
hostess for the Boundary and 17th
Unit meeting in her home on
Wednesday evening, July 19.
Mrs. Roy Williamson called the
meeting to order with the thought
for the day, followed by a poem,
Hymn "Stand Up! Stand Up for
Jesus" was sling, The scripture
from Psalm 139 was read by Mrs.
R. Williamson.
Mrs. Barry Hoegy had the
topic. It was in' the form of a
discussion on "Missions" Hymn,
"Lead On, 0 King Eternal"
closed the devotional period.
The business was conducted by
Mrs. R. Williamson. The minutes
were read . by Mrs. George
Williamson in the absence of the
secretary, Mrs. Harold
McCallum. The roll call was
answered by 10 members.
Treasurer's report was given by
Mr. C. Ritchie. It was noted to
have a bake sale at the general
U.C.W. meeting in the church
basement, the second
Wednesday in September. A card 4.
of thanks was read from Joyce
Colyer. There will be no meeting • in August.
The meeting closed with the
mizpah benediction followed by a
lunch served by Mrs. R.
Williamson, Mrs. Barry Hoegy
and the hostess.
Personals
Mr. and Mrs. Gary Goodman,
Erin and Andrew spent a
weekend recently at - the home of
the latter's. parents. Mrs.
Goodman and the children
remained for a week's holidays
returning by train to their home in
Ottawa.
John Huether, son of Mr. and
Mrs. Ray -Huether returned home
Monday afternoon from Clinton
Hospital where he spent a few
days following appendicitis.
Mrs. Walter Broadfoot
returned home on Saturday from
London where she spent the week
with relatives and also celebrated
her 87th birthday.
On Sunday,- Mr. and Mrs.
Clarence Martin, Mrs. Fern
Patterson, Mr. John. Henderson
and children , all of Seaforth,
visited Mrs. Broadfoot at her
Mr. and Mrs. Leonard
Chapman of London spent a few
days last week at their home in
the village.
We are glad to hear that Barry
Hoegy is home again from the
hospital in London. He spent Ili past month there. We hope hei
soon much improved,
