Cheering and enthusiastic
crowds have greeted the Prime
Minister throughout his tour.
Prime Minister Trudeau last week
finished his second week on a
campaign trail that has already
taken him through six provinces.
He has talked leadership. he has
promised to control inflation and
he has attacked the Opposition.
At his own nominating
convention in Mount Royal,
Prime Minister Trudeau told
Liberal Party supporters that
"The issue in this campaign is
what party, what group of men.
and women, are able to look at
every problem as it comes along.
to look at it squarely and to state a
solution ... a reasonable. answer."
On a one-day visit to British
Columbia, he spoke to about
1,000 students at Point Grey
Secondary School and visited a
senior citizens' home in
Vancouver. Mr. Trudeau accused
the Conservatives and the New
Democrats of showing contempt
for Parliament by urging the
government to implement
measures in the Liberal budget on
which they had defeated the
government.
Four thousand cheering
Liberals packed a high school
auditorium in Drummondville,
where Prime 'Minister Trudeau
kicked off his Quebec election
campaign.
He attacked the Conservatives
on their policy on wage and price
controls: "Stanfield sees only one
problem, the cost of living, and he
sees only one solution. a price and r
wage freeze." said the Prime
Minister. "And this is a solution
on which even his own party is
divided."
Canadian and explain what it is
all about. But this time you can
count on us."
In Toronto. he told some 1,500
persons attending a nomination
meeting that the Liberals will
bring inflation under control if
re-elected on July 8 - "That I
pledge to you: It's not going to be
any swift knockout, no 90 days of
wonder and amazement, no NDP
circus of slogans. But I'm
confident we've got a grip on the
problem and the continued
implementation of selectiVe
measures, as we've been doing,
wrestle inflation to the
ground."
Last Tuesday, Prime Minister
Trudeau flew to Sydney, Nova
Scotia accompanied by his wife
Margaret and youngest son
Sacha, where he began a four-day
campaign train tour of the
Maritimes and. Quebec.
Mr. Trudeau toured a steel
plant in Sydney, mingled with
several hundred people in Iona,
told -Cape Breton Islanders that
small communities such as theirs
are the backbone of Canadian
society, In New Brunswick the
Prime Minister visited Amherst,
Sackville, Moncton, Rogersville,
Newcastle, Bathurst and
Campbellton. He continued to
attack the Conservatives and the
New Democrats for voting against
the Liberal Budget and. he
continued 'his attack on Robert
