Vice-president of the 'Intario Federation of pen! tire, Wall says, "It is -:me Hydro updated its land- ii,uying policy." "Farmers have been victims of .• • i! e bullies hired by Hydro as land -I,,uyers, as well as the company's strict and outdated compensation -.)sliey. If these changes nounced yesterday by the top `i'ass get carried out in the fields, "'li'',rmers will indeed benefit." Wall cautions, however, "It • les not matter how co-operative ' d alert Hydro's well-paid ecutives are, if their agents 'orking in the country are lipped scallawags who erce farmers out of their • operty rights." he Federation welcomes three zip changes: Hydro now dges to give each farmer -the Alan of either selling his • sperty or granting an emen . The farmers will also given the choice of taking a p sum for the right-of-way or series of annual payments. dro's lease back plan will i$ntinue. Under this, a farmer work the right-or-way for $1 a • ar plus taxes. According to Wall, the new AeY has two major pitfalls. It not spell out that Hydro will t to buy an entire farm, if nstnis ion lines consume a lot land, rendering the farm viable, e was also critical of Hydro's Pens tion rates. The ,derarion wants Hydro to pay 1 per cent of the land's market ue when it buys land or takes easement for a tight-of-way' dro wlll now pay 75 per cent of rket value.
