Columbia (left), was invested
recently by the Governor General,
His Excellency The Right Hon.
Jules Leger, as a Member of the
Order of Canada, at Government
House in Ottawa.
The Order of Canada,
instituted in 1967, is designed to
honour Canadians for outstanding
achievement and service to their
.country or to humanity at large.
Members of the Order are
recognized as persons who have
.2,iven distinguished service in a
particular community within a
given profession or other
grouping.
The badge of Member of the Or
der, with a silver maple leaf at its
centre, is worn on the left breast.
Members are entitled to have the
letters C.M. placed after their
names.
The citation accompanying the
award, to Herbert K. Legg,
joutnalist, publisher and editor of
t he Creston Review, was as
follows:
Mr. Legg was born in
Edmonton, Alta. in 1913, and
received his elementary and
secondary education in Calgary,
Alta. and Regina, Sask. He
attended the universities of
Minnesota and Saskatchewan,
taking journalism and economics.
He has been publisher and
editor of the Creston Review since
1938, is the current publisher of
the Coleman Review,
Coleman, Alta., and past
publisher of the Fernie Free
Press, Fernie, B.C. The Creston
Review has won 30 national
journalism awards from the
Canadian Weekly Newspapers
Association since 1938. As
-jublisher, he was named for
outsta'n'ding journalism in B.C. by
a panel of judges, resulting in the
MacMillan-Bloedel award and
" cash prize.
Mr, Legg was seleeted with
four other newspapermen to visit
Germany (1972) for personal
observation of German trade
balances and articles written
about this received attention of

recognition by tit. kalph Casey,
University of Minnesota, for
excellence in Journalism,
He is past president of the
B.C. Community Newspapers

active in the community in the tradition of the small town press was recently made a
member of the Or der of Canada by Governor General Jules Leger. Herbert K. Legg
of Creston, B.C. was presented with the Order in an Ottawa ceremony.

action to curb drug abuse; series
of articles on child abuse.
