The , County of Huron
Roads Department has completed
repairing the damage caused
several weeks ago to the Bluevale
Bridge by a truck loaded in excess
of the posted safe load. The safe
carrying capacity of the bridge- 5
tons including vehicle 'and load -
has been restored to what it was
before the failure.
In talking to local truckers and
local residents, "Huron County
Engineer J. W. Britnell 'gained
the impression that many
truckers in the area feel the 5 ton
load limit was some kind of a joke.
He said, it is strongly suspected
that loads, man: y times that
weight, crossed the bridge in the
past few months resulting in its
eventual collapse. Mr. Britnell 1974 with cbmpletion
pointed 'out that quite often the summer.
In the- meantime the existing
bridge as repaired will allow cars
Mr. Britnell stressed that the 5•
ton load limit is the maximum
safe load that the .bridge can
safely carry without a coMplete
inspection of the bridge after
every vehicle crosses over it,
which of course is not practical.
He stressed that he'has requested
the O.P.P. to strictly enforce the 5
ton load limit and 5 mile per hour
speed limit.
