HomeMy WebLinkAboutThe Brussels Post, 1973-12-05, Page 8MISS ISABELLA MCCLURE 101 year old resident dies Miss Isabella McCture died on Monday at Kilbarchan Nursing Home. She was 101 and the oldest Seaforth resident. She was the last surviving member of a prominent McKillop pioneer family of 11. She was one of six daughters and five sons of George McClure and his wife, Sarah Torrance McClure. She was born Sept. 2, 1872, on the family farm which now is occupied by a ne 'phew, Nelson McClure. Her father bought his McKillop Township farm from the Canada Company, cleared the land, and raised his family. Miss McClure moved to Sea- forth in, 1912 where she nursed her invalid sister„ the late Rebecca McClure, for 25 years. Retired since 1926 she was a dressmaker by trade and since 1965, had been a resident of the Kilbarchan Nursing Home. She was a member of First Presby- terian Church. Surviving • are nieces and nephews. The body was at the R.S. Box Funeral Home in Seaforth where funeral services were held Wednesday at 2 p.m. with Rev. T. E. Hancock, of Egmondville United Church, officiating. Burial was in Maitlandbank Cemetery. Pallbearers were Harvey McClure, Walt er McClure, Bert McClure, Glen McClure', Ross McClure and Harry Brown. Tenders were accepted for the first stage of planning. The Charter President is Anthony (Tony) Johnstone of Lucknow. A profit of more than $1,300 was realized from the 1973 Thresher Reunion. Fred Mote of Bayfield was appointed the president of the Huron Pioneer Thresher and Hobby Association- for 1974 replacing Don Snell of •Waterloo. Simon Hallohan remains as secretary-treasurer while George Bailie becomes vice-chairman. This report was in the Myth Standard. The Wingham Advance-Times reports that there was a large attendance at the Howick Lions Club 30th Anniversary. The Howick Club is the only rural Lions Club in Canada. Two charter members, Gordon and Ken Edgar took part in cutting the Anniversary cake. Guest speaker for the occasion was Walter Fisher, a past international president of Lions. - - - Rev. M. S.
