Clinton council at their Monday night meeting reversed their
August decision and will now hire four school crossing
guards. A petition with 74 names was presented requesting
council to reconsider the earlier decision. The scheme now
will cost about $3,000 a year.. . . Clinton council last Monday
night granted six week extension to Maple Engineering of
Rexdale, -who are constructing the town's' new $750,000
sewage plant expansion. The deadline was extended from
October 23 to December 15. . . . A new policeman has been
hired by Clinton town council. A former RCMP officer,
Dondald McDonell, will begin work immediat ely and brings
extensive police training with him.
The Zurich Citizens News reports that the village council
have now established their new Recreation Community
Centre and Parksboard. Five men were appointed to serve on
the new. body. Chairman of the group is Donald Oke. Other
members are Lee. Regier, Leo Meidinger, Fred Haberer and
Isidore Laporte. Presently the board are negotiating the
services of a qUalified Recreation Director to serve the
municipality. The last two named to the board are council
representatives.. . . Thursday night was set for an important
meeting of Zurich ratepayers at the Zurich Community Centre
at which time they will have a chance, to look at the Official
Plan for the Village, at at which time they either voice their
approval or disapproval of the plan. . . . Mr. and Mrs. Renie
Denomme, a popular Zurich couple marked their Golden
Wedding recently at the home of their daughter, Marie,
London. Mr. and Mrs. Denomme were blessed with a family
of thirteen children. There are 45 grandchildren and fiVe
great grandchildren. . . The family of Rev. and Mrs. Lloyd
H. Kalbfleisch, Zurich, honoured their parents recently on
the occasion of their 50th Wedding Anniversary. During his
ministry; the couple resided in various parishes, in Western
Ont ario. The couple have resided in Zurich, since their
retirement in 1969.
The Blyth Lions Club at their regular meeting last
Thursday evening, according to the Blyth Standard,
authorized the beginning of a fund raising project to inst all a
swimming pool in the Lions Club park in the village. Actual
cost of the venture is expected .to run as 'high as $44,000.
According to the Wingham Advance-Times the Howick
Lions Club will mark their 30th Anniversary during the
meeting on Saturday, November 24th. Chartered under the
sponsorship of the.Wingharn Lions Club in 1943, the Howick
Club was at that time and still is the only rural, Lions Club in
Canada. Guest speaker for the anniversary occasion" will be .
Past International President Walter Fischer of St. Catherines,
who was guest speaker on the Charter Night in 1943. Several
of the charter members are still living and they will be
' especially honored at the anniversary meeting, along with
other Lions who have. Served in outstanding, ways.
According to the Goderich Signal-Star representatives
from almost all service groups and organizations in Goderich
were present at a meeting in St. George's Anglican Church
with Mrs. Evelyn Gaunt, field worker from Wingham with the
Department of Community and Social Services, when the
topic was 'Meals on Wheels'. Plans for the project are going
ahead and a second meeting is being held in the near future.

Canada. It's population is about

'Sydney and Melbourne, two
southern cities. , Some of its
products are sheep, wheat,

and gas. Fresh water is ,scarce.
