Attends Ottawa Convention
During the recent convention in Ottawa of the National Liberal Vederation, John Horan who
is chairman of the McKillop Liberal Association and a Huron delegate to the convention had the
opportunity of a chat with Prime Minister Pierre Elliott Trudeau while attending one of the

the retention of ownership by the
father until his death and confines
etate planning to be carr ied out
mainly under the terms of a will.
I suggested the inclusion of
forgiveness of debts related to the
purchase of farm property by a
member of the family would
encourage fathers to turn over
their farms to their sons during
t heir lifetime rather than on
their death. This is the only kind
of long term estate planning that
makes any sense. It gives the son
the security he has to have in
order to remain on the farm
during the father's lifetime. •
The Labour Minist er Fern'
Guindon, announced this week an
increase of.20 cents in the Gener
al Minimum Ontario Wage to take
the r ate of $1.80 an hour to $2.
For construction workers the
minimum wage will be $2.25 an
hour and for students under 18
years, who work 28 hours or less a
week, the rate will increase from
$ 1.45 to $1.65.
Mr. Guindon also announced
proposed amendments to the
Employment Standards Act which
would provide four statutory
holidays next year-Good Friday,.
Dominion Day, Labour Day and
Christmas Day. An additional
three holidays in 1975 were also
proposed - New Year's Day.
Thanksgiving Day and Victoria
Day. He said increased payroll
costs for firms not already
providing the holidays would be
1.6 % in 1974 and an additional
1.2 070 in 1975,
Also included in the Legislation
was a raise in vacation pay to 4%
counted . from the first day of
employment rather than the
present 2 % for the first year and
4% for each succeeding Year.
Effective January 1st, 1975 the'
work week will he shorteriend to
44 hours.
