Store hours for the Christmas
shopping season were set at .a
dinner meeting of the Brussels
Business Association on
Wednesday. On a motion by,
Max Oldfield, seconded by Floyd
Hilts it was agreed that Brussels
stores will remain open ' on
Monday, , Dec. 10, 17 and 24th and
that stores will be open on the
Wednesday, Thursday, Friday
and Saturday before Christmas
until 9 p.m. and will close at
6' p.m. on Monday, December
24th.

Boxing Day. A committee of
Max Oldfield, Helen. Adams and
Floyd. Hilts was named to

At a special meeting of the
Village Council held on Monday
evening the two tenders receiv-
ed for the purchase of a new
truck were opened. The tender
of Bridge Motors for the ton
truck, cab and chassis was ac-
cepted at the price of $3,937.60.
Building, permits were grant-
ed to the following: Jack Wheel-
er -for the addition of a balcony
to a house; George Somers' for
a carport; J. L. McCutcheon for
a roof on house; total cost
$2,600.
The village will rent' a snow
plow from Glen McKercher as
was done last year.
The boys who do the garbage
collection/ were voted an in-
• crease of .$2,00 each.
All council members• were
present with Reeve McCutcheon
presiding.
There was a lengthy discus-
sion regarding op-
erating expenses of Brussels
Arena for 1973-74.
The recreation committee is
counting heavily on the support
of the Brussels council and the
surrounding municipalities.
'November Meeting.
Nick Hill of the Huron COunty
planning department discussed
the new Brussels plan, and the
possibilities for revitalizing the
commercial core with the B.B.A.
He showed slides with before
and after views . of other
communities who have renovated
their downtowns with assistance
of planners.
The next meeting of the B.B.A.
will be held on November 7, when
the election of new officers will
take place.
Miss Jane S. Pengilley has
been appointed to succeed Mrs.
John Scott (nee Kit Hunt) as
home economist for Huron
County. She is a native of
Brampton area, Peel County
where her father operates a
fruit farm specializing in apples.
Miss Pingilley who has been
active in 4-H homemaking clubs
and Jr. Farmer clubs in her
county was educated at the
Streetsville Secondary School.
.She enrolled at the College of
Family and Consumer Studies,
Guelph, majoring in 'family
studies. She received her Bach-
elor of Applied Science degree
at the spring convocation this
year.,
