The money is to be used to help
purchase a van for wheel chair
residents.
Mrs. Carson Watson took
charge of the meeting and intro-
duced guest speaker, Ross
Hawley from the Ontario Hydro,
London who gave an interesting
informal talk,' interspersed with
slides on the many- major and
small electrical appliances., their
use, care and safety precautions
were discussed. Many questions
were asked in regard to elec-
tricity and its safe use. Each
person got a number of infor-
mative painphlets. Mr. Hawley
was thanked and presented with
a gift. The roll call was
• answered by a hydro safety rule.
An interesting motto on "Are
you mistress . or slave in your
home?" prepared by Mrs. Doug
Hemingway was read by Mrs.
Machan. You should have a
schedule of your work and time
to see that it's followed. It
should allow for leisure and re-
creation as well. Mrs. Machan
also read a poem on the"Parable
of the Hot Dog."
Happy birthday was sung for
Mrs. E. Parrish and Mrs. E.
Shaw \Who have birthdays in Sep-
tember. Sunshine collection was
taken up by Miss Beth Hoover.
Lunch was served by Mrs.
Matheson and Mrs. Ada Arm-

In scanning the Mitchell Advocate this past weekend,
it is noted that while no financial plans are yet forthcoming
for the new arena and community centre to be built in
Mitchell under the sponsorship of the town and surrounding
townships of Fullerton, Hibbert and Logan, provincial and
federal approval for a winter works loan for this project
have been approved, according t o a letter read at Monday
night's regular meeting of town council. When requirements
are determined, municipal board approval will be sought.
The building committee has been meeting with the architect
re plans, etc. on various occasions. - - Clerk McVicar
read a report of the county road committee resolutions
re the old county ,garage and the proposed riew'bridge on
Frank St. Tom Collings advised therein that this committee
had decided to sell the garage to the Town of Mitchell for
$15,000, or, if not purchased, -to lease it to a Kitchener
man, who manufaCtures small TV parts. On motion of
(Jordan-Butson) the industrial committee will negotiate
with this man, re leasing the garage at a stipulated rental,
plus taxes, maintenance, etc. fora term of years, subject to
an agreement to re-locate within the town's industrial area
in five years. - - Mr. and Mrs. Wes. Greene, Mitchell,
marked their 50th wedding anniversary recently. Mrs.
Greene is the former Mary Hoggarth of Tuckersmith and
Mr. Greene, the son of the laie Mr. and Mrs. Jonah Greene
of Hensall. They have a family of four daughters and four,
sons.
The Teeswater News reports that the congregation of Knox.
Presbyterian Church, honored Rev. and Mrs. T. J. McKinney
prior to their departure to Port Hope. Rev. and MRS. Mc-
Kinney have served the Teeswater Church for the past
nineteen years.
Earle _Shapper, Huntsville, according to the Zurich.
Citizens News, has been appointed as clerk-treasurer for the
Village of Hensall. Earl Campbell, present clerk-treasurer
is retiring, at the end of this year. Mr . Shapper will
commence his new duties on December 1. - - District
Governor James Pemberton of Cambiidge will make an
official visit to Zurich Lions Club on Monday. His topic
for the meeting is "One MilliOnMenServing Mankind." - - -
Many relatives and friends called recently at the home of
Mr. and Mrs. Otto willert, Dashwood, to congratulate Mr.
Willert on his 80th birthday.
The Blyth Standard relates that the family of Mr. and Mrs.
Nelson Patterson held an open house recently .to honor their
parents on their Golden Wedding Anniversary. - - East
Wawanosh Township council has called tenders for the new
public works building. These tenders will be opened on
September 12th when the builder of the new, building will be
decided upon.
The Goderich Signal-Star reports that Goderich Town
Council has received official word from provincial and
federal authorities that the municipality's winter works
program has been approved. The project - storm sewers
in a certain area was initially researched following a
suggestion by Reeve Deb Shewfelt, chairman of. Public
Works.- Total .cost of ?ae project has been estimated at
$152,000. The Winter Capital Projects Fund will pay
100 per cent of the labor costs in the project, estimated_at
$64,000, providing the work is done between December l this
year and. May 31 next ye;.r. - - - Mr. and Mrs. Charles E.
Young of 48 Newgate Street in Goderich will mark 70 years
of married' life on Sunday and will hold open house at the
home of Mr. and Mrs. Ver n Smith, 19 Victoria St.
At the regular session of Bayfield council last Wednesday
evening council discussed at length the closing of the dump.
The reeve reported on hiS contact with the officers of the
Holmesville Site and found the village could be accommo-
dated there. There will be further discussions at the next
meeting. — Clinton may get a Senior Citizen's recrea-
tion hall after discussion nt a special meeting held by Clinton
council last• Thursday night. A site for the new building
must be foUnd, before a $25,000 offer by W. L. Cooper of
'grigland, who offered the gift to the town in 1971 will be
available. An undisclosed location was suggested to council
but no definite action was taken on the matter. - Clinton
Legion Juvenile hardball team captured the All-Ontario"B"
Championship last Sunday in Hagersville with a convincing
13-4 win. It made 19- straight wins for the season with not a
loss. The team will be honored by the town at a later date.
The Exeter Times-AdvoCate reports that Gerry Smith
walked away with his feurth championship for old-time
fiddling this year at Western Fair. Jerry St. Marie,
London, came second and -Nelson HOWe, Staffa, was third. -
Usborne COuricil went on record as opposing the proposed
closing • of the Centralia College of Agricultural
TeChnolOgy. - - The Educational CeiCc.re for Adult TraineeS
will open in Dashwood in the Veil near futtire. Extensive'
renovations to the former Dashwood InthistriesLid.building
will soon be completed. - -Smith Construction of 8eafOrth
and Hensall have been awarded the contract to build a new
WOrks department building in Exeter for the cost of $68,1:506.
It WAS the lowest of low bids by $80 013.89. Clerk Eric
CarSCadden said he had alloted $60,000 in the budget for the
building.

Jennie Turnbull will be voting
delegates. A letter was received
from the Children's Aid Society
in regard to what use the money
from the W.I. bursary fund would
be put. A short course on
"Choosing and Using Fabrics"
