Williams of the Brussels area, has signed for the 1973-74 hockey season with the Pembroke Hockey Kings of the Central Junior Hockey League. According to Mrs. J Eric Work of Pembroke, who made material concerning the young player available, team officials are much impressed with the boy, a young forward, who Stands close to six feet and weighs about 175 lbs. They.' say he, could be a real find. The coach is quoted in the Pembroke paper saying "He's got moves you wouldn't believe" and "that shot has been clocked at 95 m.p.h'.' Edgar played _hockey in Brussels with the Bantam and Midget teams and last year with the Brussels Midgets and JuVeniles under the coaching of Brian Huether with Mel McArter, manager. The pleasant occasion was arranged by their three chil- dren, Peter of Listowel, Sharon (Mrs. Dennis Whittaker) of Brantford and Neil at home. The hall was attractive with white wedding bells and yellow streamers,. A three-tiered wedding cake centered the tea table, flanked by yellow candles and bowls of roses and many lovely cards of con- gratulations. Guests were welcomed at the door by the bride and groom of 35 years and signed the guest book, Neil Hemingway was Master of ceremonies for the evening and invited the guests to view the pictures of the earlier, days of both families in an interesting collection of photography ar- ranged around the hall. The evening was spent playing progressive euchre and friendly visiting. Prizes for cards were won by Mrs. Clifford. Ritchie and Alex Steiss. Consolation prizes were earned by Mrs. Archie Moses and Leslie. Knight. A lucky chair prize was presented to Mrs. Andrew Bremner. Mr. and Mrs. Hemingway • opened many lovely gifts and both expressed their thanks to their friends and to their family who had entertained, in their -honour. Mrs. Shaw marks 75th Friends and family of Mrs. Elsie Shaw surprised her on Friday evening on the occasion of her 75th birthday. She re- ceived many loVely cards and gifts. The evening was spent playing cards. Mrs. John Snell won high and Mrs. Jack White, low. Contestants . -were judged on an interview, speech- Making ability and appearance as well as plowing skill. Colleen, a nursing student in St. Marys, defeated her sister, Janet, 16, and Helen Brindley, 21,. of R.R.6, Goderich. The new Queen of the Furrow . was crowned by last year's Queen, Marilyn Robertson of Wingham. A" draw for, a talf of beef was won by Mrs.Bernice Pugh, Clinton, while a hind - quarter was, won by Eric Kirts, R.R.3, Exeter and a front quarter by Dorothy Talbot, R.R.3, Kipper. More than 35 entrants corn= peted for about $1,000 in prize money and assorted special prizes at the match on the farm of Howard Datars, near Dash- wood. • One of the most popular and amusing classes in the annual event, is the businessmen's con- test which was won this year,by Councillor Ken Campbell of R.R. 2, Ailsa Craig who 'plowed for Deputy Reeve Emil Deslardin of Stephen Township. Among the other politicians and non- farmers who struggled with a team of horses and a walking plow were, in order of their placing, Anson McKinley, ZUrich, Robert Gibson, Gorrie, Harvey McMichael, Wroxeter andJames Doig, Seaforth. Carl Bolton, 16, of H.H.1, Dublin, won Class 2, for boys and girls under 19. John Leem- ing, R.R.4, Walton and Marty Becker, Dashwood were second and third.
