Have you been curious about
all the scooped out holes that
have been scattered about the
.village, result of the digging, out
of a number • of old stumps of
long-before-cut-down trees.

A good many dogs are seen
these days running at large in
the village. Just because the
gardening season is about over,
does not mean that dogs should
be allowed to roam. It is a
pity• that they must be kept con-
fined and not permitted' to run
free, but not all people are fond
of dogs and some strongly object
to ,having them running loose on
their property.

The beautiful Monarch butter-
flies have been hampered in their
annual flight south by strong
winds. Thousands of them have
been, in Toronto. They were
not only in Toronto. They were
observed right here in Brussels
and throughout this area. Unfor-
tunately too many were seen
dead on lawns, sidewalks and
streets. Perhaps they died of
sheer exhaustion in their efforts
to get on course and continue
their journey south.
