Mrs.Allan McCall
The Citizenship and World
Affairs meeting of the Walton
Women's Ins titute was held in
the Community Hall on Wednes-
day evening, July 18th.
The President, Mrs. Allan
McCall opened the meeting with
Mrs. Bill Humphries as pianist
for the evening.
Mrs. Mac Sholdice read
poem and an article
"Deprived" taken from the book
Humanity and "Homespun written
by Ethel Chapman.
The guest speaker was Marvin
Strike who works with the
Huron County Social Services
Department at Wingham. He
spoke on Community services,
public welfare for the poor, the
needy in trouble, field workers,
field representatives, general
assistants. He stressed deter-
mining the person in need when
age is a factor, assistance from
the County and family benefits
allowances. Howard. Rackwell
who is a field worker from the
same office spoke briefly. MrS.
M. Sholdice thanked Mr. Strike
for his remarks and presented
him with a gift. ,
Minutes were read by .Mrs.
Ken McDonald. The , correspon-
dence in regard to the fall pro-
ject for the 4-H girls, World
of Food in , Canada" was
discnssed. Leaders are required
to attend the training schools in
August. The roll call, "OneWay
I may set an'example as a good
Canadian Citizen" was answered
by 20 niembers.
There will be no meeting next
month. The September meeting
is to be an open meeting with
interested people of the com-
munity invited as well as any
Church groups when there will be
pictures on Africa shown by
Mrs. Mills.

The hostesses, Mrs. Ernie
Stevens, Mrs. F. Van Vliet Sr.,

PERSONALS
Mrs. Walter ,Broadfoot has
returned home from a two-week
visit with her relatives the Far-
quharson's in London.
, We are glad to report that
Dean Hackwell was able to re-
turn home last Thursday from
his two-week stay in Victoria
liospital, London, following his
bicycle accident with a large
truck.
Mr.. and Mrs. Tom Stevenson
and Ronald spent the week end
in Toronto. Mrs. Mary Barr and
Mrs. Bruce Cummins returned

to their homes in the city after
a holiday at ,the home of Mr.
and Mrs. Stuart Stevenson, Grey
Township. Miss Anna Lee
Stevenson also went to. Toronto
wher e she will be on holidays
this week.
Church services will
resume on Sunday, July 29th at
the same time, at Walton, Duff's
UnitedChurch. Rev. D. Docken
'and family have been on holi-
days at their cottage for the
past four weeks.
Mr. William Bell, is• a
patient 'In Westminster Hospital,
London, having gone by ambul-
ance last Tuesday.
Mrs. Emmerson Mitchell
attended the Cameo Convention
for instructors for a couple of
days in Windsor at the Sheraton
Hotel. •
Peter Benhett who holidayed
with relatives in Hamilton last
week returned home with his
parents on Sunday.
Mrs. Roy Bennett has
arrived home after visiting with
her son Fred in Ottawa, Ken
in Toronto and Horace in London
and their families.
Mr. and. Mrs. Keri Shortreed
_and baby son and Mr. and-Mrs.
Jim. Shortreed toured the Coiling-
wood, Midland and penetan-
guishene area over the weekend
and visited with relatives at Elm-
Services
vale.
Mrs. Wm. Sholdice visited at
the home of her daughter and
son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Ian
Wilbee last week and attended the
funeral of her aunt, Mrs. Speiran,
in Brussels,

to members
Mr. and Mrs. F. Dunk opened
their home to the Brussels Horti-
cultural Society's July meeting.
The meeting was favored with
good weather and everyone en-
joyed being outside. Mr. Dunk
1st. Vice President presided and
welcomed Members and guests.
Mr. and Mrs. Dunk, delegates to
Ontario Convention in Guelph
gave reports.. The Society pur-
chased a book, 'History of Ontario
Socieites' and each member will
read it. Mr. Blandin of Dept.
of Natural Resources Branch
showed slides of maple syrup
making from early pioneer to
modern day methods. Mr.Dunk
thanked Mr. Blandin and a gift
was presented. The door prize
was won by Mrs. E. Parish.Mrs.
E. Mitchell entertained, with the
violin. She was thanked and given
a gift. The August Flower Show
was discussed and committees
appointed. Flower Show - Mrs.
