LIBERALS AND PC'S AGREE
Liberal Party' and Progres-
sive Conservative members
agreed in•the House of Commons
to push for a 200-mile offshore
fishing limit at the 1974 Law
of the Sea Conference in Chile.
This proposal, outlined by
Fisheries Minister Jack Davis
in St. Andrew's N.B., is an at-
tempt to restrict coastal fishing
to Canadian fishermen.
poison ivy
suited immediately. The first
sign of poisoning is, usually a
light itching, followed by a faint
blush on the skin. Within hours
or days, small watery blisters
appear and the itching becomes
more intense.
If it is impossible to consult
a doctor immediately, a solution
consisting of a 2 gram tablet of
potassium permanganate dis-
solved in a quart of water may
be applied to the affected area,
before the watery blisters have
formed. Avoid rubbing the skin
if the blisters are already pre-
sent. Do not apply oily or greasy
liniments.
Contaminated clothing should
be repeatedly washed with soap
and water or dry-cleaned. If
clothing is taken to a dry cleaner,
it should be wrapped and labelled
with warnings.
Several •chemical weed killers
can be used to eradicate poison
ivy. The manufacturers' instruc-
• tions should always be read care-
fully before application' of the
chemical. Among the effective
chemicals are 2,4-D, Fenoprop
(Silvex), and Ammate X.
' Late May and early, June are
the best times to apply poison
ivy control chemicals, as this
is the period when the plants
are in full growth.

This rhyme is a good one to

Poison ivy is no respecter of
persons and has ruined many a
'vacation for adults and children
alike. An extremely hardy weed,
poison ivy will grow in almost
any location, including home gar-
dens, and is extremely difficult
to eliminate. It also comes in
a variety of forms. It may
grow as a vine, climbing over
fences or along walls, or, as a
low shrub with short stout items.
The skin of people sensitive

ful rash, that may develop into
blisters, after contact with the
roots, stems, leaves, flowers, or
fruits of the plant. The irri-
tant is an oil present in the
plant. This oil can be absorbed
by clothes and passed on to other
unfortunate victims.
If a person knows he has been
in contact with poison ivy or has
