News of Walton W.I. honors Past President Correspondent Mrs. Allan McCall Members and guests were welcomed by the new President Mrs. Allan McCall at the monthly meeting of the Walton Women's Institute in the Community Hall on Wednesday evening. Mrs. Ray Huether was at the piano. "The Shindigs" grade 7 pupils from Belgrave Public School entertained with several songs aecompanhing with their guitars, banjo, spoons, mouth- organ and piano. Taking part were: Lori Thompson, Marni Walsh, Lynne Haines, pril Mc Burney, Alison Roberts, Janet Cook, Donald Bakelaar ' Wayne Cook and Scott. Lougheed, under the leadership of teacher David Medd. Mrs. Emerson Mitchell, con- vener for Agriculture and Cana- dian Industries' had as her guest Gordon 1,4cGa.vin who showed slides of local happenings and their trip to Arizona last winter. He was thanked and Mrs. Mitchell presented him with a gift. Business included minutes read by Mrs. Ken McDonald. Thirty-four members answered the roll call, "What part of farming should a housewife do?" Mrs. Gerald Watson reported on the East Huron District Annual in Walton earlier this month. Mrs. Bill Humphries pre- sented Mrs. Jim Nolan with a gift. She has been a member since the Institute was formed in 1956, served as President and acted on Standing Committees. She will be greatly missed, as she is moving to Seaforth. Mrs. Ray Huether and Mrs. VanVliet reported on the bus trip to Stratford on June 7th. It was decided to have guests at the June 20th meeting when Mrs. Victor Emerson of White- church will be the guest speaker, Institutes to be invited include, Blyth, Londesboro and Seaforth. Mrs. Nelson Marks had the names drawn for the Sunshine Sisters for the coming year. Lunch was served by: Mrs. Harvey Craig, Mrs. Helen Wil- liamson, Mrs. Grameme Craig and Mrs. John Hos, Gain honors at Achievement The four 4-11 Clubs from Walton,, along with clubs from. Auburn and Blyth and their leaders, attended the Achieve- ment Day on Saturday, May 19th in the Clinton High School. The morning session opened with registration at 9:30, the girls took part in judging, etc. The afternoon programme was open to everyone and consisted of Fashion Shows and placing exhibits. Mr. Jean Lawless, Home Eco- nomist, Haviston, gave com- ments on the Fashion. Show, while comments on the Exhibits were given by Mrs. Maxine Bright- well, Home Economist, Stratford. Presentations of spoons and certificates of Achievement were given by Miz.s Catharine Hunt, Home Economist of Huron County. Those receiving County Honour 'Pins were: Kathy Street, Faye Seers, Mary Ann Blake, Doris Naylor, Jean Brown, Patty McDonald, Cathy McClinchey, Margaret. Shortreed, Karen Mc Clinchey and Barbara Chamney was presented with the Provin- cial Honour Pin. ' The Project for Fall, 1973, will be' "A World of Food in Canada." Hold shower Miss Jean Docken was hos- tess at a shower in honour of Miss Catharine (Kit) Hunt, Clin- ton, Home Economist for Huron County, at the Manse, Friday evening, when a number of 4-H leaders from the Walton Clubs and Home Economists gathered to wish her well in her future marriage to John Scoot , Essex, early in September. Corsages were pinned on the guest of honour arid' her sister, Mrs. Gordon (Pat)'tinclair, Kit- chener, when they arrived. Their mother was unable to attend. Contests were conducted by Mrs. Docken. , Gifts were presented to Catharine and in her usual manner thanked everyone, just what she needed, also to Mrs. Docken for planning such an enjoyable evening for her, and reminded everyone, if we were ever near Essex to be sure and come to visit her in her new home. The hostess served lunch, assisted by her mother, • Mrs. Daley. PERSONALS Mr: and Mrs. George McCall. visited on Sunday with Mrs. Lizzie Scott, Albert and Robert Vociden in Clinton. Mr. and Mrs. S.D. McDonald, Lathrup Village, Detroit, and Mrs. John McDonald, Toronto, spent the weekend at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Alvin McDonald and other relatives of the com- munity. Mary Searle, Margaret Short- reed and Anna Lee. Stevenson were among those that left Sun- day fbr Inkster, Michigan, where the Seaforth Girls' Trumpet Band took part in a parade there on Monday. Mrs. James Daley, Blenh returned to he: home on Tu clay, following a visit at the M with Rev, and Mrs. DeT Docken and Kristen. Misses Dena and Debbie Wey sange a duet, "Morning has Broken," accompanied with their guitars , at the morning service, Sunday at Duff's. United Church. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Dunk along with friends, Mr. and Mrs. John Smith, Nova Scotia, Mr. Rollie Achilles and Mrs. Allan McCall attended the Horticultural Spring Flower Show and Tea on Saturday in the Brussels Public Library. Mr. and Mrs. Wallace Sholdice of Mississauga spent the weekend with Mr. and Mrs. James McDonald and attended the War- wick-McDonald wedding inDuff's United Church, Walton, Saturday afternoon.
