deserve great credit for the work
they have accomplished.

'A tremendous crowd gathered
at the Brussels Agricultural
Grounds on Friday night• to enjoy
the . Giant Fireworks display
sponsored by the Brussels
Business Association..
Children and adults alike
thrilled to the fine display of
rockets, burst of color showers,
pinwheel spinners and the bang-
bang of the noise makers.
Not only those' gathered at the
scene of the display but thbse in
cars parked on the streets and.
county roads within vision area
watched the colorful display.
The committee in charge were
well pleased with the success of
the event and look forward to a
bigger and 'better presentation
next year.
With all the organization for
sports, senior citizens, etc., the
younger = children 'have some-
hoW been neglected. The Lions
wading pool and swings are the
only. amusement provided for
them. It would be nice indeed
if, for the summer months at
least, some sort of recreational
program could be undertaken for
' them. There is, of course, the
opportunity for swimming in-
struction provided but that is for
a comparatively short period,
and, in the mornings only. The
problem is when there is no
recreation director to find people
who have the time, and the ability
and are willing to undertake such
a project.

Vandalism does not occur only
in Brussels. If we had full
time police protection even that
would not guarantee there would
be no more vandalism. One
reads regularly in the weekly
papers that vandalism takes place
in towns and villages where they
do have resident police. The
guardians of law and order can
not be everywhere at all times.
Those bent On vandalism, and
other lawless acts, chose the time
and place, when and where, they
are least likely to be caught.
Too often they get away with their
anti-social activities.

Almost daily now one hears
or reads, Of fatal tractor
accidents. Tractors, useful and
versatile machines that they are,
too often are misused, handled
carelessly, Or by inexperienced
operators. In Spite Of tuotnerous,
repeated warnings to take care
in their operation, there are too
many lives lost; and Serious in-
furies: suffered in tractor
ac cidents.

While adults were pleased
that the warmer weather made
their enjoyment of the holiday
weekend more pleasant, young-
sters revelled in it.' Many were
pedaling furiously, with gay aban-
donment, here and there on their
bikes, some others were horse-
back riding. Others were seen
even scampering about bare-
footed. Surely spring must be
here and not around yet another
