UCW continues India $tudy,

There were fourteen mem-
bers present at the.IVIay meeting
of the Afternoon Unit of the U.C.
W. held in the Sunday School
room, Mrs. Earl Anderson opened
the meeting with "Happy the
Home When God is There"'.
The study on India was con-
tinued in dialogue form by Mrs.
Stewart Procter and Mrs. Wil-
lard Armstrong. Mar riage by
parental arrangement is still
practised throughout India. By
the extended family systein a
household may include three gen-
erations liVing under one roof.
This preserves racial caste arid
social groupings.
The singing of the hymn "As
pants the Heart for Cooling
Streams'" was followed byScrip-
ture from Luke read by Mrs.
Cecil Coultes who also gave
the meditation. Bible study was
conducted by Mrs. Leslie Bolt
who emphasized that character
is the best equipment for the
leader of the church.
A Christian must be a good
citizen praying always for those
who have the responsibility of
government, living a law-abiding
and useful life, and willing to do
an honest days work.
The Belgrave W.M.S. met
Tuesday, May 8 at the home of
Mrs. Clifford Purdon, Dungan-
non. The president, Mrs. Joseph
Dunbar opened the meeting with
a, poem "Spring". Mrs.William
Payne read the Scripture followed
by the meditation on "Courage"
by Mrs. Stuart Cloakey. Mrs.
Victor Youngblut read a prayer
and then assisted in presenting
four of the members with life
membership certificates. Mrs.
Joseph Dunbar presented one to
Mrs. Ronald Oke, Mrs. Jack
McBurney presented , Mrs.
Clifford Pnrdon with hers,Mrs.
Alan McBurney presented one
to Mrs. Mac. Scott and Mrs.
Garner Nicholson presented
one to Mrs. Stuart Cloakey.
Mrs. Ronald Oke gave the
topic, finishing the chapter on
Women's Liberation in India and
the chapter on Family Planning,
dealing with the money problems
that must be overcome.
The secretary's report was
given by Mrs. J. C. McBurney
followed by the treasurer's re-
'port, by Mrs. Victor Youngblut.
A letter was read asking for
volunteers to clean at Camp
Kintail. A review on the Syno-
dical meeting was given by Mrs.
Victor Youngblut. The roll call
on a Bible promise was answered
by, 14 people, there were three •
guests present. Nineteen sick
and shut-in calls were recorded.
The meeting closed by singing
"0 Master Let Me Walk with
Thee". Mrs. J. Dunbar gave a
word of thanks to Mrs. Purdon
for the invitation to her new
home.
Euchre
There were eight tables of
euchre played last Wednesday
evening in the Belgra.ve Com-
munity rooms with prizes going
to - High Lady - Mrs. Hugh
Rinn; Novelty Lady - Mrs.Olive
Walker; Low Lady - Mrs. Jesse
Wheeler; High Man - Herson Ir-
win; Novelty Man - George Grigg;
Low Man - C. R. Coultes.
There will be euchre played
again next week:
Junior Auxiliary
The' Belgrave Junior Auxil-
iary met in the Orange Hall on
Saturday morning with Sheila
Anderson leading in the games.
President Audrey Scott led in
the opening exercises and. Cathy
Shiell had charge of the Roll
Call. Minutes were read by
Alison Roberts. The treasurer's
report was given by Judy, cat-
michael. Leaders for next Meet-
ing Games - Patti Edwards, sing-
song - Anne Procier, to help with
worshi p - Cathy Shiell; clean-
up -girls - Sheila Anderson and
Lisa Thompson.
Lisa Thompson helped with
the worship Service. Cathy
Shiell and Ann Procter collected
the •offering and Patti Edwards
recited the offertory prayer.
The gills made a card for
Mother's Day with 'liquid em-
broidery on it with the assist-
ance of Mrs. Clarke Johnston and
the girls worked on stripe work.
Julie Guay led in the singsong.

Church by Rev. John G.Roberts.

The Evening Unit of the
U.C.W. met at the home of Mrs.
George Michie with a good atten-
dance.
Mrs. Laura Johnston opened

after which "The Church Has
One Foundation" was sung.
The worship period was taken
by Mrs. Murray Scott assisted
by Mrs. Cliff Branton with Mrs.
Ross Anderson reading scripture
and closed by singing "0 Lord
of Life, Love and Power", prayer
by Mrs. Murray Scott. Mrs.
Laura Johnston conducted bus-
iness. The. Country Fayre will
be held on June 30.
Offering was received and
dedicated by Mrs. Laura Johns-
ton.
Mrs. Jack Taylor had charge
of the program dealing with In-
dian Families.
The June meeting is to be
held at the home of Mrs. Cliff
Branton.
Lunch was served by Mrs.
William. Coultes group.
