at Institute meeting
The May meeting of the Cran
brook Women's institute was held
at the Community Centre. Guests
were present from Brussels, At-
wood and Moncrief. Roll call
was answered by giving a hint
for spring cleaning. The ins-
titute will go on a bus trip to
Toronto on May 29 with the Mon-
crief ladies. The motto 44House-
work is a must, but recreation
must not be neglected" was given
by Mrs. Jas. Hart. Mrs. John
Strickler introduced Mr. and
Mrs.. Geo. Langlois and Mrs.
Peters spoke and demonstrated
hair cutting and styling. Several
ladies modelled attractive wigs.
Mrs. Hart presented them with
a gift. Mrs. Ross Knight acted
as auctioneer for a successful
bake and plant sale.
The fifth and sixth meeting of
Cranbrook II idStretchin' Stit-
chers" was held at Mrs. Gordon
Engel's.
Meeting Five - The girls an-
swered the roll call of I

tailor's hem on the edge of gar-
ments.
Meeting Six - Everyone ans-
wered the roll call which was

if possible." Mrs. Engel showed
how to do an elastic casing for
a waistband. Mrs. Knight demon-
strated how to put on a mock
cuff for pants or shorts. The
leaders helped with individual
problems.

group
meetings
Meetings six and seven were
held at the home of Helen He-
therington on Saturday. Roll
call was "How I plan to care
for my garment once it is made."
Roll call for meeting seven was
,.one suggestion for the Club
Fashion Show." Minutes were
read by Nancy Knight. The
meeting on May 26 will be held
at the hothe of Barbara
Ducharme, Mrs. Ross Knight
demonstrated applying a zipper
without a seam and applying in
firm knits, a tailored hem, and
hem with cuff.
The Foresters had a bowling
lournament in London on Sunday
and the High Triple Trophy was
won by Mrs. Stewart Steiss. A
number of the AtWood Lodge .
Foresters and wives from the
Cranbrook area 'attended.

topic for May WMS meeting

Mrs. Mac Engel
Mrs. Clare Veitch was hos-
tess for the May meeting of the
Afternoon Group of the W.M.S.
with eleven members attending.
Mrs. Lytle Gordon opened the
meeting reading "For God is
food," and "For the beauty 'of
the earth" was sung. "Thoughts
on ,Mother's Day" were read by
Mrs. John A. Perrie and Mrs.
Calvin Cameron. Mrs. Gordon
read "Mothers of the Bible"
and the story of the writing of
the hymn "Amazing Grace" by
John Newton. All joined in read-
ing Isaiah 65: 17-25, followed by
prayer by Mrs. John Schnook,
Mrs. Earl Dunn conducted the
business part of the meeting,
minutes by Mrs. Stanley Fischer,
and treasurer's report by Mrs.
Perrie. Mrs. Irvin Coxori, Mil-
verton, will be the. Presbyterial
visitor. An appeal for help
from Kintall Camp was read and
a cash donation will be sent.
Listowel and Cranbrook are to
plan the Fall Conference to be
held in ListOwel. The roll call
was a verse on "spring."
Cards and visits were recorded
by Miss Forrest.
The topic on "India - the
land and its people," was given
by Mrs. Mac Engel. Mrs. Clare
Veitch gave a reading from the
Glad Tidings on " a Christian
Medical College and Hospital".
The Hymn "All Things Bright
and Beautiful" was sung and Mrs.
Gordon gave the closing prayer.
Miss Forrest assisted the
hostess with lunch.
Mrs. Leslie Knight and Mrs.
Jack Cox attended the Officers'
Conference at University of
Guelph on May 2 and 3. Mrs.
Knight as a delegate for secre-
taries and Mrs. Cox from district
of Huron for Citizenship and
World Affairs.
Mrs. Stuart Stevenson at-
tended the Biennial Evening
Department Conference in
Ephraim Scott Memorial Church,
Montreal.
w. and Mrs. Bill Muchan,
Likidon, visited Mr. and Mrs.
Earl Dunn on Sunday.
Mrs. George McNair, Hamil-
ton passed away suddenly in
Wyoming while on .a conducted
tour to California. Mr. and Mrs.
W.J, Berrie, Rev. James perrie,
Strathroy; Mr. and Mrs. Donald
Perrie, Verna and Marie atten-
ded the funeral on Friday in
Hamilton and also visited Mrs.
Mary Hollinger in Hamilton
General Hospital, who was in-
jured in a car accident on April
29.
The Sacrament of Baptism
will be administered at the
service in Knox Church on May
13 at 9:45 a.m.
