The cross cuts, varying in thickness from 1 to 2 1/2 inches, contain considerable connective tissue as well as a round bone. Be- cause they are a less tender cut, long and slow moist heat cookery is recommended. Cross cuts make a meaty soup. Brown 3 to 4 pounds of cross cuts in lard or drippings. Pou off drippings, add 2 quarts water and seasonings, cover and cook over low heat for 2 hours. Add vege- tables such as potatoes, carrots, celery, rutabaga or turnips and simmer, covered, about 30 min- utes longer or until the meat and vegetables are tender. , The most popular vinegars in the United States are cider vine- gar and white distilled vinegar. One should be extra cautious when stepping out of main street door- ways. Children, we are sure; have no intention of injuring any- one, but sometimes their attention is distracted, or they are inept in the operation of their bikes, and an unfortunate accident can happen so quickly. Adults must be alert to the danger and be careful. Parents should instruct their children that rid- ing on sidewalks is"illegal and dangerous. parents are also re- minded that they are responsible if anyone is injured, • * * * * * * Whatever has happened to that once so popular game of mar- bles? Early in the spring, as, soon as the snow was off the ground, groups of youngsters could be seen htinkered down around a circle scratched in a bare patch of ground. They were carefully sighting, and shooting marbles, aiming for the small • hole excavated in the exact centre of the circle. If they were winners they came home grubby but happy.
